Next Generation Dell Precision Mobile Workstations press release

IIRC the Haswell Refresh CPUs came during summer 2014. The move to eDP from LVDS apparently came at the start of this year (1080p IPS), and the updated models have 'Precision M4800' on the keyboard bezels instead of 'Dell Precision M4800'.

 

Oops - back to Lenovo P 70 - unless they are released significantly after the current Dec 1 date.

When I was looking at the 7710 on the Dell India site (someone shared the link earlier) it said the SD card reader maxes out at 64GB. It says "SD Card Reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, supporting up to 64GB)" - that must be an error, no? The latest mobile phones take up to 2TB of micro SD cards, and a lot of people are using 128GB these days as do many cameras. What happens with cards over 64GB?

I do think Dell has made changes that it did need to, such as number of internal SSDs, moving the headphone/mic to the right where a mouse would be for right handed people, putting the battery indicator on the side (though I can't see that on the Dell India page). And I, like others, would have preferred them to keep a dedicated Home and End key.

But the fact that they are matte screens on the 7710 is a plus.

Couple of questions I do have (in addition to the one about the 64GB card reader above).

- A lot of people buy these machines with low RAM (due to Dell's pricing) and insert their own. Has Dell changed its pricing structure in that regard so we do not need to get the min from Dell only to throw them out as soon as the laptop arrives?

- Also, your comment about the SSD selections concerned me. If we purchase the cheapest option from Dell only to swap it out for a high-end SSD model we purchase elsewhere at a later date. Does anything/specs or whatever change about the laptop (depending on which SSD you purchase from Dell)?

- Is the 7710 as easy to take apart and configure after we have bought it as the M6600-M6800 etc.?

Will both, the 7510 / 7710 be able to support 3 external monitors? By way of the older e port docking station or otherwise? Note this is 3 EXTERNAL monitors I'm asking about - not 2 externals + lap display.

The capacity is much larger for SD support.
Unfortunately pricing is something I have no control over, sorry. I'm the product manger and responsible for the systems themselves.
No issues with swapping the SSD's. The systems are not changed or limited in anyway according to the SSD that is in the system.
Supportability (is that a word) has not changed. The 7710 is still pretty easy to work on.

 

We can support way more than just 3 external monitors. We support up to 6 today on the M4800 & M6800 with an AMD GFX card and a dock.

Any comment on why the new Precisions have lost the dedicated volume controls? Probably one of the most convenient things about the old Precisions.

 

Hi, Mano, is 130W charging/powering capability only limited to 5510 or it supports 7510 and 7710 as well? Also, AFAIK, USB Power Delivery only supports up to 100W, how does Dell manage to make it 130W? Is it possible to use third-party USB Type-C power adapters which are less than 130W (such as 100W or 65W adapters) to charge 5510/7510/7710? I know they may not power them in heavy load, but could they as least charge them even in a slower speed? Thanks.
