The FHD panels are IPS panels and the UHD panels are IGZO panels.
All the panels are matte except for the touch versions of the FHD panel on the 7510. The 7510 has both FHD touch (glossy) and non-touch (matte).
We will offer external optical drives for all systems.

Thank you for answering all those questions!

Could you please tell us approximately what price we can expect for the higher-end configurations of the 5510? (anything along the lines of i7/Xeon + Quadro + 4k Touch + 512GB/1TB SSD) I am wondering whether I should cancel my current XPS 15 order and wait for the Precision 5510 instead.

So there can be the non-touch, UHD matte panel as an option?

Unfortunately I don't have specific pricing. Starting at price with the FHD panel is $1399 prior to any discounting. Sorry about that.

Not sure which system you are talking about. The 7510 & 7710 UHD panel is only non-touch. The 5510 UHD panel is touch only.

Too bad these caveats weren't more prominently advertised in the last generation.

The product page for the M4800 was proudly proclaiming Optimus as a feature. Only upon receiving my machine almost two months after ordering did I find out the QHD+ screen was incompatible with Optimus. (as you can tell, I'm still fairly pissed off about this one)

Ah OK, got it. I thought there would be both touch and non-touch UHD panels for these systems. Thank you for the clarification!

Do you mean that I need to order it (7710) personally through you over the phone as opposed to online (in order to guarantee that the drive cage, screws etc. are included)? I do have a corporate account with Dell - what about ordering it through my Dell business rep?

I know you can't (or not allowed to) give a specific release date but is mid-November to late November (but not into December) a reasonable ball park time? When these units are listed online will there be any significant delays in the manufacture of the units or will it be fairly prompt?

So, the 2.5" connector is SATA-e?

Can this be used to connect a SATA to dual M.2 RAID adapter?

    Something like this:

Just order the system the way you normally would order it and the drive cage will come in the system.
I'm the product manager for the Precision mobile workstations. I'm not in sales. :)
In regards to timing, the only thing I say is that they are coming soon. Sorry but I can't be more specific than that.
