I have not seen that before. I don't think that will work with the systems as the connector looks a bit different.

    Hi,

Build quality wise, is there any difference between the new XPS 15 9550 vs the new 5000 series Precision?
I know the CPU/GPU differences exist, but was wondering, on a chassis/build quality aspect (or things like ports etc), what else is different?

    Thanks

There are many differences in offerings between the XPS 15 and Precision 5510. Processor offerings, storage options, professional GFX, Precision Performance Optimizer, ISV certs, broader OS offerings, full configurability on the Dell.com store, vPro support, overclocked memory, more memory capacity, and the list just goes on. :)

The chassis is the same but the motherboards and offerings are different.

Thanks for the clarification on the SSD slot coming with the drive cage.

With regard to timing, your willingness to share specifics on the Precision line (at this time) tells me a lot. "Soon" may be just around the corner.

    thanks again.

Does the connector look like connector #5 in this picture?

    For the 7510 specifically:

What does this mean for a dock like the E-port Plus that I got with an M4500 in 2010? (Model PR02X). Also still supported?

Is there still an eSata port on the laptop itself?

I have to say the lack of a 2nd 2"5 bay or optical drive that can be replaced by a HD caddy is really, really disappointing. The 1TB SSD that I invested in, and was supposed to be carried over as initial "performance" drive, now ends up eating the slot for the mass storage, and forces me to invest in an expensive M.2 that isn't even available yet in a capacity that would enable me to match the storage capacity of my 5 year old M4500??? That HURTS, lol...

Starting from the fact that I should keep the 1TB 2"5 SSD, 1TB total storage doesn't cut it, 1,512 TB barely does but just is too expensive right now, and 1,256 TB feels like so temporary that it's just not worth the investment.

I just don't understand that design decision, and perhaps it's the only fact right now that makes me seriously rethink an upgrade decision that I thought I had pretty much taken already more or less..

Sorry fot the rant, nothing personal, lol...

That is just a SATA connector. Our interface has both a SATA and PCIe. Dual sided.

Yes that dock is still supported.
No eSATA port on the outside.
