    Is it a U.2 (SFF-8693) connector then?

The drive side would look like this:

The bottom connector in this picture:

    Another question:
Is it possible to order the 5510 with Ubuntu 14.04 upon release or the 'developer version' is coming later?

One more question for Dell-Mano_G - Is there a Thunderbolt 3 Port or just USB 3.1? Lenovo (P70) offers 2 TB 3 ports.

No the SATA drives still connect to the same slot. You will just have to purchase one to see what I'm talking about. :)

Or maybe, you can post a photo of the connector?

I would have to get a really good deal to persuade me to buy one. The lack of an internal optical drive and the keyboard are reasons for me to look at different manufacturers.

I never thought I would, being a big fan of the Precision M6x00 line...

I think the 2.5" bay will be conventional SATA, SATAe is basically DOA. The M.2 slot IMHO should be wired in to PCIe 3.0 x4 if maximum performance is to be extracted from these new NVMe SSDs.

How many SATAe SSDs are there in the market, compared to M.2? It's cheaper for manufacturers just to make M.2 drives to retain commanality between desktops and laptops. Plus SATAe is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, which is not enough for the future.

SFF-8639/U.2 is the replacement of SATAe as it provides 4 PCIe lanes. Some desktop motherboard manufacturers now supply a M.2 -> SFF-8639 conversion card.
