    Thanks for that clarification.

Can anyone tell me how significant of a difference would there be between the graphics capabilities in the 4800 vs. the 6800?

I want to get into Video Editing / FX work, and I have the opportunity to buy either laptop.

    4800's graphic card options:
    • AMD FirePro M5100 Mobility Pro with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory
    • NVIDIA Quadro K1100M with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory
    • NVIDIA Quadro K2100M with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory

    6800's graphic card options:
AMD FirePro M6100 Mobility Pro with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory
    • NVIDIA Quadro K3100M with 4GB GDDR5 dedicated memory
    • NVIDIA Quadro K4100M with 4GB GDDR5 dedicated memory
    • NVIDIA Quadro K5100M with 8GB GDDR5 dedicated memory

And is there any particular reason to go with the 16GB 1866MHz RAM vs. the 32GB 1600MHz RAM?

Obviously that K5100M with 8GB looks far better on paper than the K2100M. What would that translate to in real-world usage? Is there anything that the K2100M simply couldn't do that the K5100 can do, or is it mainly just how long it will take to render?

Also, is there any reason to go with the AMD option if you're going to be using the laptop for video editing / FX, or is the NVIDIA option just as good / better?

    Thanks.

According to the YouTube video and specification pdf revealed, there is no FireWire ports on both systems.

That should even give us some money back for shipping that thing, as the transport vehicle gets lighter :)

These are the processor options I'm seeing...

    4800:
    Intel Core i5-4200M (Dual Core 2.50GHz, x.xGHz Turbo, 3MB 37W, w/HD Graphics 4600)
    Intel Core i7-4800MQ (Quad Core 2.70GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo, 6MB 47W, w/HD Graphics 4600)
    Intel Core i7-4900MQ (Quad Core 2.80GHz, 3.8GHz Turbo, 8MB 47W, w/HD Graphics 4600)

    6800:
    Intel Core i5-4200M (Dual Core 2.50GHz, x.xGHz Turbo, 3MB 37W, w/HD Graphics 4600)
    Intel Core i7-4800MQ (Quad Core 2.70GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo, 6MB 47W, w/HD Graphics 4600)

Obviously I don't think these are by any means a complete listing of the processor options, but they're the first specifics I think for that component.

So this is a confirmation that there is no IPS screen for any 17" Dell laptop ?
Incredible, i'm a photograph and use a M6700 IPS because of the screen, and there is no successor for it
Does any other brand provide a laptop with a good 17" IPS (or equivalent) screen ?

HP 8770w and upcoming Zbook 17. I asked my DELL reseller about M6700 with IPS - told me impossible to configure.

Just got notified that M4800/M6800 can be configured by DELL resellers (in PL, so probably worldwide)

Another info, might be interesting -- just got told that IPS _will_ be available (in 2 weeks time-frame), but treat this info as gossip I guess.

If you have a M6700 IPS then there is not really a need for you to upgrade to the M6800. Sure, some of the specs are nice but you have such a great laptop already you might as well until the M6900 or even, dare I say it, the M7000 (if there ever is one).

I am on the M6600 and am a lot more tempted by the M6800 then I was the M6700, but I will still most likely buy the M6900 when it comes out as some things are missing from the M6800 - such as thunderbolt and a few other things I can't remember right now. But ultimately I do not need to buy a new one as the M6600 is working great thus far. Would I like the boost in speed and battery life? Sure, who wouldn't but it is not such an important upgrade as it will be next year.
