That depends on how you set the display resolution, at the native res, sure but at 1600x900 it would display alright with 7 and 8 with no pixel interpolation. The problem is the loss of screen real estate. 1920x1080 should look ok even with pixel interpolation given the pixel density. Again, it negates the benefit of a higher res display, but it can always be used as a workaround when needed.

My thoughts exactly. I'm certainly not settling for anything less than an IPS screen.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope that Tweakers are wrong about Dell dropping the IPS screen.

That would be a huge mistake, given the intended target group of these machines.

On the other hand, its not an unprecedented business practice, especially these days.

Apple not too long ago 86ed their long-lived and top of the industry FCP7 video editing program in place of a simpler consumer based version editing application. Something that shocked the industry and left many loyal user felling bewildered and abandoned.

Apparently, the much smaller pro market was no longer economically appealing to them. Or more precisely, getting the business of millions of consumer to use their FCP X was more appealing?

Thanks for the info, thelibran. Will keep a lookout at their site for the news too.

But the thing I can never understand is... the motherboard that they'll be using supports up to 32 GB (as Michiko said and shown on intel official site), but Dell kept publishing saying that it supports up to 16GB only.

    Dafug?

Could be a space problem to put 4 dimms inside that thin chassis. Just like it is missing a LAN port.

I would still prefer an m6800 with 1920*1200 or 2880*1800.

Would be nice to see two 2,5" and two mSata slots which would allow 3TB of SSD storage, combined with 32GB RAM gives a nice portable VM host.

Yes please. Exactly my wishlist. Could even cut down on the number of ssds, as long as there is 32GB and one more storage option.
