I was just reading on the DB forums, you can use encryption to more securely store your data....DB has worked without flaw for me for the last 2 months.

Crashplan seems decent too, can backup to other computers (for free), unlimited online storage (not free)... and encrypted...
I am still not sure which way to go...

    One review here:

Bruce...that looks good also...but, with DropBox what I appreciate the most is the cross platform synchronization....it's pretty cool to create a document, say, on my Vostro, and then boot up my m4400 and have it 'magically appear' there also...:D I added my son's laptop's pictures folder also, and it was pretty cool as he copied some pics from his external to his pictures folder, to see them stream in via notifications in my systray on my Vostro.

Yeah that does sound really great! Crashplan (seems to be/) is more about backing up - it does this in a cross platform way (Windows, Mac, Linux (not iPhone)) allows access immediately to the backed up files... but I don't think it does the sharing trick....

They do seem quite different.. I need to try Dropbox for sure...

    Thanks! :)

In raid 0 W7 is still rating hard drive peformance at 5.9. I am still evaluating any gains in speed from the new setup.

Have you looked in your BIOS are you in, Intel Rapid Recover Technology (IRRT) mode
Or are you in Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) mode, this would have an impact
    on your performance.

    Hi mitchellboy,

You seem to be one of the few that have received the M6500 with the ATI graphics card. I'm still waiting on mine, but trying to prepare for a major project that will entail some video processing using the card. Can you tell me if the Dell drivers for the ATI include the Avivo Video Converter? (It should come as part of the ATI Catalyst Control Center software.) I fear that Dell might not have included these features in their version of the driver, which will leave me struggling with how to get them intalled into a "non-standard" configuration.

From what I have read, installing the Avivo Video Converter along with the Catalyst driver is necessary in order to enable video software to utilize the GPU to significantly speed up video encoding. (Up to 5x speed increase compared to if the video converter driver is not installed.)

Have you tried converting video yet on your machine?

Can you check to see if your video drivers included Catalyst Control Center or Avivo Video Converter?

    Thanks!

5.9 is the best I got from 2 mechanical drives in RAID 0 regardless of any driver and any BIOS setting.

btw WEI is not the best program for identifying and speed increases. Something like http://www.hdtune.com/ will tell you where and exactly how much of a speed increase you have.
