One of the main target user groups for the M6500 is the oil and gas industry. I can see a lot of reasons to include gps for them.

Sorry for the lack of detail, it lakes longer to write than you think.

I've never been to the states so I've not got any first hand experience with american cars (except american chopper where I once saw a humvee and it looked a little like a land rover...)

RE: GPS, no i didn't get this, I have a phone with GPS, a satnav with GPS and a bluetooth GPS, I think a 17" workstation as a GPS would be a little impracticle.

Maybe useful for marine use such as maxsea or olex over 4 screens?

Not sure if anyone is still tracking this, but Dell's solution was to make the correction online (order configuration) without notifying customers. That's ok with me since I think that's better than having to cancel the order just to re-configure it.

    Before.
    1 317-3295 8.0GB, DDR3-1600 SDRAM, 2 DIMM for Dell Mobile Precision*

    After.
    1 317-3295 8.0GB, DDR3-1600 SDRAM, 4 DIMM for Dell Mobile Precision*

    * order status, cut & paste (order received from sales rep vs. online config. a week later).

I just noticed that the "Built-in Gobi™ with GPS supports Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T" option is not shown in the Dell's EU configuration page. I assume that the EU models don't come with GPS feature?

    EDIT: Any EU owner here?

Why, if you are in the field somewhere so remote that you need to know your location then you likely need a ruggedised laptop. If not then i fail to see any uses.

I have some questions regarding the M6500 (I've been a thinkpad user from 2000 - 2006, but don't like the current Lenovo lineup).

I currently own a Studio 17 (have been using it for software development nearly every day for the past 15 months, and it's already falling apart, eg. windows key is broken, DVD burner is defect, etc.).

    My questions:

    (1) I loved the thinkpad trackpoint, is the M6500's as usable? Can you do vertical scrolling with the middle mousebutton and the trackpoint?

    (2) Any complaints regarding the keyboard, flex anywhere? The Studio 17 keyboard is imho below average (note: I loved (!) the keyboard on my last Thinkpad, the T42p). I think the overall Studio 17 build quality is below average, I hope the M6500 is alot more solid.

    (3) I don't do any photo/video work, so should I nevertheless buy the RGB led backlight or is the 'white' LED backlight sufficient (my private laptop is a macbook pro 13" - which afaik - has a white LED backlight - which I love)

    Thank you!

Yeah, I have found that already. The question however is why the EU dell doesn't offer it in the configuration setup. Is it pre-installed as a standard? Can we install it on our own?
