I'm fairly sure it's part of the WWAN card.

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, so just thought I would mention that there is a "Dell Deal" with instant savings of $501 for the "Advanced Package" M6500 on the US Small Business site. Not quite as good as the $1220 savings on the Covet that a few snagged earlier, but still a decent discount if you are considering the M6500

Worst review ever, not detailed enough. :)

That quote about people thinking you were designing a bridge was definitely a stand, I really liked that.

Also I don't think a Humvee would be appropriate for America as that thing is really a hog with no Finesse.

Maybe more like a Z06 or ZR1, a little too masculine, heavy and large but when it comes down to performance it's all business.

The Dell rep snuck one in on my order (I didn't really want it), so I can try it out when my system arrives on the 21st.

    Hi Keithsnell,

I would be interested if the Gobi card can use GPS without being activated via a cellular provider. The CS rep I talked to last month told me this wasn't possible, but he didn't sound to confident in his answer. I haven't asked my sales rep, but if it works I might add this myself *after* I receive my order.

Yes, the GPS module is built into the Gobi card, mobile broadband module.

The Dell site specifically states that GPS can be used without activating a cellular plan. This has been confirmed elsewhere as well. The GPS function can be accessed through the Dell Control Point software, or other 3rd party software.

I plan to test how good the GPS reception is indoors, since that is where it will have the most functionality for me (route planning, etc.). I've found instruction online that described how to use the built in GPS with programs like Microsoft Streets and Trips.
