After installing "Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Controller" (A05 I think) from Dell Download onto my M6500 I had the strange behaviour that my Color Control was gone like yours. After reinstalling the Dell System Management it reapeared but after a system restart it was gone again. Additional my M6500 sometimes had the problem that it hung in the shutdown process. Deinstalling the "Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Controller" and reinstalling the System Management again had worked for me. The Color Contol isn't gone for weeks now :).

    Hi all,

I couldn't manage to get the part# of the Quadro 5000M (or 5010M) yet. Even my DELL sales rep wasn't able to find it in the system.
Since I am not going to replace my M6500 with the M6600, an upgrade of some parts would be great. I (nearly) maxed out all my DELL notebooks regarding upgrades (CPU, RAM etc.). That's why I'm still hoping there will be a six core cpu for this platform (after "Sandy Bridge" I didn't think it was possible but now Intel released another old platform hexa core CPU (990X) for desktops).

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Alex

I doubt there is going to be a Six-Core CPU for the QM57 platform more or less releasing a Six-Core CPU for Sandy Bridge. I don't expect to see a Six-Core till Ivy Bridge. Also, how are you certain that the 5010M is going to work with the M6500? You have to note that the 5010M is not out yet and I don't think Dell is going to revise the M6500's BIOS to give it 5010M support right out of get-go.

If that was the case, I would already be waiting in line for the FirePro M8900 for my Elitebook 8740w! :p

Well, of course I'm not sure that the 5010M will work with the M6500. But the 5000M does it (because the M6500 was IMO already shipped with a 5000M). And both (5010M and 5000M) do have a max power consumption of 100W so the cooling/power supply wouldn't be a problem.

Regarding the six-core: it was just a dream... but maybe they will at least release a CPU faster than the 940XM (which isn't an option for me since I already got a 920XM).

In a year or 2 the 8GB memory modules will be at moderate prices and I will upgrade from 16GB to 32GB (I don't need it now - but maybe you know "Adobe" and "Autodesk" and their products *g*)

    Cheers,
    Alex

I have a question about fans and how they work.
I observed that they turn on when the temperature rise over 50C. When it falls to ~43C they turn off.
Is there a possibility to set they work all the time with the lowest speed?

    1. Hold Fn + Shift and type 15324. The scroll LED should blink now.
    2. Press Fn + R
    3. In the upcoming menu disable the BIOS fan control...
3a. ...and set fixed fan speeds (watch out for temperatures!)
3b. ... and use this tool to set your own trip points:
    Dell Inspiron Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control

You'll have to repeat this procedure every time you cut off power supply (AC and battery).

Thanks, you are absolutely right. Seems I wasn't able to find the right search term, when I did the search. After I knew that it was there I found it :)

DELL part number (part#) for the NVIDIA Quadro 5000M: "320-1949"
    (this should help other searchers)

I instantly contacted DELL and asked for it. The answer was: "will be available in 2 weeks and no price yet".
Therefore I will call in 2 weeks and ask again *g*

About the price: One year ago I paid more than €5k (>$7k) plus tax for my M6500 so even an expensive upgrade does make sense. And I already needed more than 1GB video ram in a mobile workstation...

    Cheers,
    Alex

I used this tool (I8kfanGUI) for years (and on all my former DELL notebooks) but it doesn't run on Win7 x64 (at least I didn't succeed to get it to work). And it seems that Christian Diefer abandoned this tool.

    Cheers,
    Alex
