Just to get the information out there....

Just picked up a U3011 to hang off the Eport Plus replicator I have and add some real estate.... and was really looking forward to being able to use the displayport++ capabilities of the nvidia card/eport plus in conjunction with the 5.1 capable audio outs on the 3011...

    This won't work.

Apparently nvidia's "implementation" will not allow an audio signal to be passed over displayport if the resolution of the display is "beyond HD", or 1920x1080. Obviously the 3011 is way over that, so I seem to be SOL at the moment, and am stuck using the subpar speakers of the 6500 or running a 3.5mm stereo cable to a Klipsch pc speaker system I've had for a number of years.

I've verified that sound is indeed being passed to displays fitting those spec requirements with an old Westinghouse 32" lcd I have as a sanity check.

SvenC: Thank you very much, this app has been coming in handy. Much appreciated.

KiloWatt: Thanks for helping me try to diagnose this issue. Still in email discussion with workstation support.

Bokeh: There aren't many desktop icons at all, it's pretty odd. Win 7 Ultimate here, same drivers from Nvidia.

If I turn off the 2ndary monitor, then the main U2711, then U2711 back on again, the icons are jumbled. The desktop is always empty on the secondary monitor so it's pretty strange that would affect anything.

Thanks for the heads up spill. I was about to exchange the U2711 for the 30"er but came across discussion via google that the 3011 has the same issues, so figured its not worth the hassle. I'm really thinking it's Nvidia or the way Dell implements DisplayPort that is the root of this stuff.

It looks like it's nvidia's fault. Dell machines aren't the only ones suffering from the deficiency, as I've seen references to the same chips and cards among other vendors (HP being the most prevalent next to Dell).

Makes me wonder if this is because your primary monitor is changing when you plug in the U2711. This would cause the resolution to change - along with the icons. You could try making sure your built in display is ALWAYS the primary monitor (Monitor 1 in the display setup) to test this out.

I would also recommend to always use the internal screen as the primary monitor. This has worked well for me for many years with a lot of different laptops and external screens connected to VGA, HDMI, and Display Ports.

I've got a problem with touchpad. Sometimes the cursor stop moving. It looks like the trackpad freezes. Than I can only use trackball.

    Which driver do you use?

Both A05 and A06 from dell work for me. Sometimes after a reboot the touch patch gestures are not enabled, which can be fixed with a hibernate/resume. But from that occasional glitch I have no problems with the Dell drivers.

    Hi there,
Im new here, so please dont judge me.
Yesterday i bought M6500, and im disapointed in display quality, for that kind of money i expected much better. I have one with 17" WUXGA White LED display. My concerns is about gradients and lack of some colours. In Photoshop i can see steps on my pallete.
I did fresh install of Windows 7 64bit, and newest drivers from NVIDIA. Also i checked if its not set to 16bit (it wasnt).
Can someone else have a similar problem? Maybe a solution? Please Help.
