Interesting. The blink happened again so -- on the new U2711 now with new DP & power cables... crossing fingers.

So the blanking out monitor seems to have stopped.. but god help you if the system hibernates. Monitor goes into power save mode, desktop get rearranged, what a joke. Asked tech support if there was some specific order to powering down & was told no. I think the way DisplayPort works on Dell equipment is funky.

Strange. I haven't had any such issues whatsoever with the U2711 connected directly to the M6500's DisplayPort! Hibernate, standby etc. have worked flawlessly exactly as they should every single time for a over a month.

My M6500 has the M7820 though. It seems that either your nVidia graphics card has some issues or the graphics driver doesn't like how the U2711 behaves.

Does the nVidia control panel have any alternative DDC options that you could try?

Is your laptop lid open as a 2nd monitor or is it closed? What do you to to wake yours?

As a workaround: DesktopOK is a nice tool to save icon positions for different display resolutions and restore them if something gets messed up: Software DesktopOK 2.37 Save and restore the desktop icon positions.

Hi all I have a 6500 running an i7 940xm with 8gig in 4 sticks with an ati m7820 it arrived from a dell re-seller with no OS or drivers so two questions:

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the thing sorted is there an easy way, yes I,ve tried D/L the drivers one by one from dell and cant even get the turbo boost package to run...

after running the tag through the dell site I notice the original owner (who ever he/she was) still has the balance of two and a half years dell (business?) warranty is this transferable?

Regards and thanks in advance Holgate

PS. have the mat screen, may change it to the gloss as they seem to come up fairly cheaply on ebay - is this a bad idea or not possible. Sorry thats three questions!

The lid is open with the internal screen as the primary monitor, the U2711 as the extended desktop secondary monitor. Waking up from hibernation or standby is done by pressing the power button.

Power button is configured to put the laptop into hibernation, standby is activated by Fn F1. The lid switch is configured to shut windows down.

That's weird. The only time mine rearranges the desktop is when I reinstall drivers and for a few seconds the screen resolution goes down to 800x600. This is the only side effect of nvidia's new clean install option. Otherwise everything stays in the same place. This includes lots of docking to a multi-monitor setup and undocked built in display use.

The only thing I can think of that would rearrange things would be your settings or that you have an insane amount of things on your desktop.

I just run Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit with whatever the latest drivers on the nvidia site are.
