I am noticing some keyboard flex in the "Q-P" line of keys on the keyboard. Nothing major, but I wanted to give you a head's up.

Virtualization is enabled in the Bios by default. There are also 2 advanced virtualization options that I am unfamiliar with that are both turned off by default. One has to do with direct hardware I/O access and the other with security.

I installed XP mode to see what it was like, but don't use it currently. It worked, but was not terribly fast on the M6300.

Like mentioned enable virtualization in the bios.
Then in any version of Windows7 you download:

    1. KB958559-x86
    2. WindowsXP mode or XPM from microsoft.

    Both are free.
The first one installs Virtual PC and the second, XPM.

You launch it asks you to create and admin password and Windows XP launches.

Just to answer a few questions.
    1. The GFX card is NOT MXM. It is a custom card made specifically for Dell.
    2. The M6500 supports hot undocking, no need to have a button just undock and go.
    3. 1600MHz memory is ONLY available in 2GB DIMMs. There are NO 4GB DIMMs available. If you ordered 8GB then you will be getting 4 x 2GB DIMMs. The website has a typo that should be addressed soon.

It might be helpful for some people on here to see benchmarks comparing the 1600mhz memory vs the 1333mhz.

I have some doubts that there will be much of a difference to support the price hike and limited memory options.

I'm curious about these extra two virtualization options. My Studio XPS 16 i7-820QM only has one option for virtualization in bios (on/off).. and it cannot support SLAT. See:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_gu...nd-video-performance-issues-with-hyper-v.aspx

I have a unique setup where I run a Win2008 R2 w/ workstation mods as my OS using Hyper-V role to support x64 VM's for demos. I also want the win2008 R2 OS to be able to support the aero interface as I like to use the host OS as a aero enabled client in demos. So far, all the i7 820QM I've worked with crash once the graphics driver and hyper-v role are enabled.

I'm hoping the i7-920XM will support SLAT. I've seen statements that the i7 was supposed to support Hyper-V and 3D graphics.

My Covet should be arriving within one or two months.

Any daring soul out there want to try loading Win 2008 R2, Hyper-V Role, and the released(or hacked for that matter) video driver and see if you get a BSoD? Its a pretty easy/relatively quick test.

I'll check on it when I get mine. There is a big community of developers needing windows x64 VM guest support .

There is only one way to solve this, would someone that ordered 8GB of 1600MHz of RAM
Please open up the bottom of your M6500, and look at one of your DIMMs to see if it is
2GB of RAM or 4GB of RAM please.

    Thank You
