I only made a couple of changes, 8GB DDR3 1600 (2 DIMMS), second hard drive (did not want to take the chance of not getting the second HDD tray), and I was also able to get the Covet.

Hi all, I'm quite interested in buying an M6500 (or maybe an M4500, if it would be offered by Dell).
I'd like to ask to lucky M6500 owners to perform a quick test about throttling.

I suppose at least some of you are aware of throttling problems on other recent Dell notebooks, such as Studio XPS 16, Studio 17 and even Alienware M15x.
Throttling cuts moltiplicator level at 7x on Core i7 when both CPU and GPU are higly stressed at the same time, making the CPU performing at the lowest performance level and so hampering gaming and any other CPU+GPU intensive task. On XPS 16, throttling seems to be induced both by a BIOS setting and an underpowered AC adapter.

On "Dell XPS and Studio XPS" subforum there are at least two long threads debating about XPS 16 throttling:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=446193 and
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=437800

So far, I've seen just one throttling test done on M6500, at this link on an italian forum:
    http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=2099603&page=11
It seems that M6500 doesn't have throttling, since the multiplier stays at 13x.

Nevertheless, I think that some more testing is needed to conclusively exclude the occurrence of that phenomenon on M6500 notebook (which could be induced by BIOS setting at least).

Would some owner kindly repeat that test?
Test involves the contemporaneous use of Furmark and Prime95 (Small FFT, 8 threads), multiplier level can be checked using programs such as i7 Turbo or CPU-Z.
A summary is given on the first link I gave above (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=446193).

    Many thanks in advance.

    very iteresting indeed.
lets hope the M6500 does not suffer from the same problem.

on another note, does anyone have the 3dmark vantage scores of the GPU and CPU?

This short video came up just 16 hours ago:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT067bm3cAM

It's about horizontal flickering on M6500's RGBLED screen, but the video doesn't show much or maybe I don't get it.

If someone could figure it out, it would be nice to share his thoughts with the rest of us.

Does anyone know if the i7-920XM supports virtualization? I want to be able to run Windows XP 32-bit mode for some apps that may not run on Windows 7 64-bit.
