You are right and I knew that I am not sure why I missed that.

The only let down is the lack of OpenCL certification and optimization, and from my understanding ATI's firepro drivers aren't are "optimized" as nvidias.
I had my GPU/LCD replaced (LCD replaced 2x, since first time they used a low quality Samsung, I got the LG LCD overnighted as parts so I could install it myself.)
Dell's SMB Support is the best I have dealt with, including HP's/Lenovo's business class. Apple doesn't even begin compare.

yeah i dont need fancy drivers as i dont do any image work.. I just want the raw power for occational games :p

ive been checking out the outlet.. there are some good deals but i think im gonna wait a few weeks (maybe a month) for the M6600... should have new chips and hofully even fasts GFX cards from ATI!

im really hoping they keep all the same awesome stuff they currently have on the 6500.. maybe add a sub.. im really a huge fan of the differance it makes on my M90 over the standard laptop speakers!!!

I decided to get a new M6500. Thinking of going with nVidia(FX3800) for a change.

if your gonna put down for the 3800 you might as well get the 5000, but if you want games get the firepro... its fast....

if you want you can also order the top of the line card for the alien MX17 and drop that into the M6500....

Nope, the M6500 uses a proprietary format for it's graphics cards; if the graphics card isn't designed for the M6500 (or maybe the M6400 too) it won't fit.

I've my M6500 since about one year (one of the first, without a USB3,...)

Since the beginning, I've had occasionally the following problem: when I turn it on, I can see the BIOS screen,... then the screen becomes black. Sometimes, it comes with everything very green (still readable), but fades to black in one or two seconds.

Under Windows, I've had no other solution than a hard switch-off/switch-on.

Under Linux, I can go to 'text mode' (Ctrl-Alt-F1) where I can see my login prompt, and back to graphical mode (Ctrl-Alt-F7). Usually, when I do that, I've got the same phenomenon appearing again (all green, fading to black). After 5-6 trials, it comes with proper colors, is stable,...

This seems to happen more when the machine has not been used since 12+ hours.

Have any of you a similar problem? Any idea of what I could do?

It doesn't happen systematically, so it's difficult to report to support. No update to bios, drivers,... seems to make any difference.

I have the same from time to time. Not sure if it is only a black screen. To me it seems that the disk is not functioning at that time because the disk indicator stays black.

    agreed - FurMark score for the FX3800M > M7820. 3D Mark 06 scores were almost the same.. 3D Mark Vantage M7820 > FX3800M.. I just liked the fact it ran 20C cooler + DX11..

    :insert a retarded smiley here:

i'll take that as a typo..

and dells all use a custom pinout of the standard MXM formats...

im almost 100% that the M6300 and M6400 have the same cards..
Im pretty sure that the M6500 and M6600 will have the same slot.

I wouldnt be supprised if the M6300 cards will work in M6600 and vise versa..

I also have SEEN my M90 boot up on a gaming card that I pulled out of a MX17

unfortunally he wouldnt let me keep the card LOL... good test though.

I also wouldn't be surprised if those cars would also fit in my M90. :|

and just a fyi here is the 17" precisions in order...

    M6600 (releasing any day now), M6500 (current) M6400, M6300, M90

Yes, except that the Alienware M17x is a standard MXM 3.0B format, not the same format as the Precisions. My point was more that an Alienware M17x card shouldn't fit in the M6500. Don't forget that the MXM format isn't just the connector; it also governs the size and shape of the cards.

Edit - here's a post from someone that actually took apart a M6500 (http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...ew-m6500-discussion-thread-6.html#post5642338). Note how he says the format for the graphics cards are proprietary, and not standard MXM 3.0B.
