They were, and they weren't. There _have_ been cases of people that ordered a quad core, but somehow got a dual-core board (you can actually put a quad core into a dual core board, and vice versa, and they'll work just fine). In fact, that's exactly what happened to debguy. Hopefully that isn't also your case, though.

yeah i rememver seeing the 4x1GB config... probalyl done to move old stock.

good for some poeple who do not want to pay dells outragoud prices on ram.

i wonder if you could simply install the other 2 slots... i know a guy around here who has a proper setup to reflow boards.....

that would be waaay cheaper to swap out the chip and then have him add a couple of slots.

I have a question to all M6500 owners. I have 2 M6500's /w ATI M7820 and nVidia 3800M in front of me and I see the ATI card's heatsink is made of aluminum compared to copper used on the nVidia. Is this normal?

I dont know if thats normal...
i am a little upset that dell would cheap out on the ATI cards since thats what I want.. and I would like to upgrade the card at a later date.

i know the 3800s make a crap load of heat though..

Confirmed with my friend who owns a 2800M that his heatsink is copper also.

Anyone have any backpack suggestions for the M6500? I used to have an old Dell XPS M1710 with the special backpack for it. I THINK it was made by Mobile Edge. I got the Mobile Edge EVO. The M6500 fits OK, but you have to kind of slip the corners under the curve of the bag edge. I really like the layout and pockets on the bag.

Any other bags I should look at? I did a model search at eBags and didn't see many others I liked. I do like Mobile Edge's quality.

Anyone else using the Mobile Edge EVO on this system?

The Targus backpack Dell sells as accessoire is fine. It's well padded, the laptop fit's very well, it's big enough for the power brick and other peripherals and it doesn't look too flashy.

I'd like to find that in a store to check out. I haven't liked Targus bags in the past. They seemed heavy for starters. It's not nearly as stylish as the Mobile Edge EVO!

The backpack is for sure not the lightest, but it isn't extremely heavy either. If I have a 4kg laptop in it I don't care for 500g more or less. What I do care about is the comfort when it's on my back, and that is excellent.
But I might be biased. Where I come from high school students carry 7kg backpacks 10km by bicyle every day.

Regarding the stylishness, I prefer understatement. I see no use in having everyone around to know that I carry 2800 Euros with me.
