I've never seen that in Linux and I have a USB disk permanently attached.
So either this problem is driver-related or not a general hardware problem of all M6500.

I am going to get M6500 with the most expensive screen, however I have heard that they are still TN displays, is that true? Is that something worth worrying about?

hi, I've noticed that the rubberised thing on the display assembly between the hinges on my unit is not properly centred: on both outer sides of the hinges the distance to whatever-it's-called is about 1 mm; however, this thing is right next to the right hinge, leaving 2 mm on the left side. It's not very pretty.

does anyone know how to move it? I've just had the lower case changed due to a small warp, but I don't really want to have too many unnecessary 'repairs'.

Yes it's still a TN display, and no, it's probably not something to worry about, unless you have a great need for color accuracy over wide viewing angles.

I made it! What a read!

Researching M6500 for my next college student in the family. The first has an M6400 that serves him well.

I expect with my luck they will release an M6600 in 2011 Q1 or Q2 and the research will start over.

But a lot of great info in this thread. Nice posts by Bokeh! +1:notworthy:

    Hi all,

Anyone know if the M6500 keyboard is the same replacement part as the M6400?

I received my M6500 Covet today but for some reason it came with a UK layout keyboard... I'd like to swap it out with a USA layout (what we generally use in Australia), however the only replacement keyboards I can find online are for M6400's. Nobody at Dell Australia has been able to answer my question :¦

Sorry if it's been answered already, this thread is loooong and no matter what search term I use I couldn't see if it had been discussed yet.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm fairly certain the kb on both units are identical. I remember asking a former Dell tech about the differences between the two models. He said that they share the same components with exception to the CPU, GPU etc...

    Hi,

I am thinking about installing a SSD hd in my M6500.
SSD harddrives are something new to me so I am a bit worried :)

Anyway, I opened up my M6500 today and found the location for the secondary harddrive.
It is empty with a removable frame (to put the harddrive in) plus a plastic foam thingy containing some kind of small plastic adapter.

I have seen forum posts where people complained about needing to order the sdd hd from Dell because they were missing some crucial part.

I am wondering if I have all parts neededthis sdd hd:
    Corsair SSD Force Series 120GB 2.5" - Inet.se
in my M6500 if I have the metal frame and adapter thingy that can be seen at the top in this manual:

I installed my Intel X-25 SSD just fine too with just that frame, adapter and screws.
