I've been having major issues with my FIPS fingerprint reader, up to where they decided to replace the motherboard .... long story ... anyway I requested the USB3 upgrade and it went in without a hitch. Unfortunately I do not yet own a USB3 device so haven't tested the ports :)

I am not sure if you can buy the part directly from Dell though, others have had more info on this in the past.

The M6500 has additional power options available that are installed via the Dell System Manager. One of these power options is a Pro Audio Mode which shuts down some features to allow low latency for people who require this.

Speaking of power options, over the past couple of weeks I've had two blue screens (7 64 Ultimate) attributable to power management drivers. Happens a minute or so after resuming from sleep it seems. Unfortunately, in both events, for some reason the crash report is attempted to be sent to MS before the wireless adapter has had a chance to come online apparently, so it fails.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Follow-up: I took a chance and ordered an M6400 US-Layout keyboard (on eBay - they're cheap enough and in abundance). Whilst the bottom bracket is slightly different to the official M6500 keyboard, it does indeed fit - and works flawlessly.

Not sure if you'd be able to use an M6500 keyboard in an M6400 though; the missing 'tabs' on the locking mechanism of the M6500 keyboard would mean it might float around and not sit in place in an M6400.

I turned on the "Pro Audio" power setting mode given that's what you'd probably want. Averaged around 200us, maxed out at 523us. Ran the test a few times to be sure.

FYI Got roughly the same results with "Maximum Performance" power settings too. Didn't seem to make any difference between the two power settings in the Dell System Manager.

Suggest you get a few more samples from others though, as it seems not all M6500's are created equal.

Most of the time between 100 and 400, max after a few minutes 780.

Uups, shortly after reopening IE and starting to answer here I got a 6052.
Now it is back to normal again. And again while typing another red block around 6000.
