I have the latest BIOS a04 installed.
Besides ati I have drivers from broadcom, dell, vmware player, synaptics, vodafone and what not installed.
So it is hard to tell which one it is and I do not have enough time to play with that, sorry.

Hopefully someone with the same low DPC wishes jumps in to tell if it works for him and which drivers may interfere...

Don't take this the wrong way but wanted to start from the beginning. Do you have USB 3.0 enabled in the BIOS?

Most of the time I have about 1ms with frequent peaks of up to 1.6ms and very rare peaks above 4ms without optimizing anything in relation with latency. Most of that latency is caused by disk I/O (I have Ktorrent running) but I've never seen the X-Server to cause it although I run the proprietary NVIDIA driver 195.36.24.

How is the fan noise on the M6500 compared to the M6400 for the same workload?

I think you mean the jog shuttle settings because the touchpad doesn't really have a backlight except to show you the weird jog shuttle which confuses me. Right click on the Dell Touchpad icon in your desktop tray and select "Touchpad properties". Then select Jog Shuttle Settings->Jog Shuttle. You can then disable the jog shuttle by unchecking the check box there. Hope this helps. ^^
