I recently received my m6500 with m7820 video and the wled screen.... if I load a page like yahoo.com and tilt the screen the gradient area has an excessive amount of noise. it is even slightly apparent when not tilting the screen. Has anyone else heard of this before. I connected an external monitor as well , the noise is there but its stationary which is better.

My older m6300/fx1600m notebook doesnt seem to suffer from the issue so I cant figure out if it's a ATI thing or the WLED screen.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give info on this.

It's not the WLED screen (at least not all of them). Mine works fine during tilting.

Thanks for your input..... now I just need someone with the ATI m7820 to give it a try. I took some video of the issue if I get a chance I will post it within the next few days. It's virtually un-noticable at direct view angle but now that I know its there I can even see it then :(

Do you only see it on web pages? Sounds almost like your browser is employing some kind of page loading acceleration by down-sampling the images. Try another web browser and let us know if you still see the same thing.

I don't know if any ISPs still do it, but years ago it was a "feature" that they down-sampled all images to make a dial-up connection faster.

It's a system wide issue, it even occurs on desktop icons etc. Its a "live" noise eg. (dancing pixels) and the noise occurs on a physical layer meaning I can have the display at 640x480 but the size of the noise remains the name. it really is noticeable when the color of the object is a gradient.

My theory is that the ATI card is inherently noisy and the actual LCD processor amplifies the noise..

I am going to need to post the video on youtube I guess hehe.

I uploaded the video of it. best watched in 480P.

    YouTube - M6500 WLED ATI M7820 noise

Youtube's processing of my video kind of wiped out some of the noise, but in the very beginning look at the middle of the Autodesk icon and you can see how its kind of moving, the shot of the webpage immediatly after shows what I see myself. You will see the video pan to the m6300 notebook and there its not noticeable. when I look at the m6300 screen all I see are nicely smoothed lines where the noise is on the m6500.

Granted the issue is only really noticable when the screen is tilted away from except in the Autodesk Inventor Studio app you can clearly see it even at a direct view angle on the buttons on the left side of the screen.

is that with the 1920x1200 RGB screen or just the regular LED screen ?

i think you should call dell and make them replace your video card or the screen did you try the regular 10.8 catalyst drivers from AMD website that's what i am using now and everything seems ok

The screen is the 1920x1200 White LED , I called dell support today and the only thing they suggested was to re-seat the video cable from the LCD which had no effect , I have come to the conclusion that its not driver related because I see the same "noise" on the dell startup screen.

hopefully someone sees the thread who has the same equipment and can check theirs. If it does the same I will know its normal. It's pretty usable as long as I dont think about it , sort of like those 2 lines that you see on a sony trinitron tube hehe

I am still within my return period so thats an option for the next week at least.

The screen is the 1920x1200 White Led
I've now confirmed that its not driver related as the "noise" is noticable in the dell startup screen. I called dell support earlier and the only thing they could suggest was to re-seat the video cable which did not make a difference.

I am just waiting for someone to see the thread who has the same equipment and can see if theirs does the same thing. At least I will know if its "normal"

Its quite usable as long as I dont think about it, kind of like the 2 lines on the old trinitron tubes hehe.

I am still within my return period for at least the next week so I may take that route but knowing if another WLED/ATI combo will do the same thing would be very helpful.

Sorry to bump but if someone could assist it would be great as i keep finding the colours to harsh.

Aslo do you have any feedback on the Dell E Port Plus replicator with their unit? I'm looking at running 2 x 27s off mine.

My current 2709 has a great colour, but for the life of me I can not match it. :(
