New M6500 Discussion Thread

So maraculously Dell found the 8gb stick and lcd at the factory last night and mine is supposed to be here on Friday!

 

Have any you guys had any word on this pci-express ssd card thats due to come shortly?

My main interest is disk-io with this laptop not graphics and we have ssds that are giving 360meg/s read already on sata3 i was wondering if this slot will be limited to sata2 speeds link the 2 disk bays and optical drive.

Yes, I think it will since the M6500 uses the PM55 chipset (SATA2/3 Gbs), I think you'll be fine for now. Not sure about the next gen SDDs though (Vertex 2 etc).

 

Looks like sending the INF file over email might not work with some antivirus.

SO... Here is how to mod your INF file.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! BAD DRIVERS = BAD PERFORMANCE AND CRASHES!!! IF IN DOUBT USE THE STANDARD DELL DRIVERS!!! I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS!!! DONT BE A DUMBA$$!!!

OPEN:

nvdm.inf with wordpad (notepad won't wrap the text lines)

UNDER:

[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]

AND

[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

ADD:

%NVIDIA_DEV.061D.01% = Section016, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_061D&SUBSYS_02EF1028
%NVIDIA_DEV.061F.01% = Section016, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_061F&SUBSYS_02EF1028


UNDER:

[Strings]

ADD

NVIDIA_DEV.061D.01 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M"

What will this accomplish?

 

It will allow you to install the updated 195.xx driver from the nvidia website instead of the 187.xx version that Dell has posted.
