    Hi Rlabbe,

Actually, the E2E screen option coming with the Covet is only a piece of glass added upon one of the LCD screens available for the M6500.
    That's all.

Behind the piece of glass, you'll find the same LCD screen than on the Silver version of the M6500.

So, basically, all the options you mentionned are Anti-Glare (non-glossy) for the Silver M6500, but if you go with the Covet M6500, Dell will add a piece of glass to completely cover the LCD and the border of the bezel (so edge-to-edge), making the whole thing "Glossy".

Now about the various LCD screen options, to summarize:

    WXGA+ is 1440x900 pixels.
    WUXGA is 1920x1200 pixels.

RGBLED: is a backlight technology that provide more vivid/vibrant colors than the standard LED backlight (white).
That does not mean that they are more "accurate" (in term of deltaE, you 'll understand me if color accuracy is important for you).

    Hope this helps

Well in terms of adobe gamut RGBLED supplies more than 100% of the color gamut and wled doesn't and Delta e is rather useless since he wont be sitting a wled machine next to a rgbled machine. Nevertheless the rgbled screen will match all the colors of the wled but the wled won't match all the colors of the rgbled.

As long as your photos have color space data the rgbled will be more accurate.

I appreciate the detailed reply and explanation of the screens. Although this is subjective, I’ve read threads where people using RGBLED have noticed the system being too bright even after attempting to modify settings.

I’m using the system as a portal lab supporting VMware so I believe I’ll be okay now that I have a better understanding of the technology with a WUXGA LCD Panel due to the increase in resolution.

I don’t know how to calibrate a screen with all the software packages mentioned and am happy with a normal screen without the mirror you mentioned.

    Thanks again!

    altoid,

I appreciate the reply but admit 'gamut', 'wled' and 'Delta e' are words I need to Google. :) I'm a novice and seeing as I don't know the meaning of those terms off hand, I believe I should be okay with the WUXGA LCD. :)

    Thanks!

The people saying that even over the phone reps aren't giving you an option for Win7 in a 64bit flavor leaves me puzzled to say the least.

Not sure what "division" the reps are from, but ours was a small/medium business rep. Not sure how that translates as far as more or less latitude in configuration options, but my process involved configuration of a unit through their web site, sending it to the rep, and then discussing over the phone which options could be altered. And then finally price.

In the end, I was able to verify that USB3 was going to be available on the machine, an Intel 6300 card option used for wireless, and even had a laser MFP added to the order to take advantage of the nice price discount.

So... maybe the reps from other sales divisions aren't privy to the complete set of available options this particular machine has? Weird....

    Hi spill,
looking at your sig, you have 16 Gb RAM, did you get them all at once when you order the machine or you added them later.

I ordered the machine with 2GB if I remember correctly and purchased a couple of 2x4GB kits from an online retailer. Unfortunately even with the hefty discount, the ram ended up being significantly cheaper that way compared to getting the unit ordered with 16GB from them.

    @rlabbe:
If you're not a professional graphics editor the WLED display will be perfectly fine for your needs. It's mate but not fuzzy, can be very bright but also pretty dark.
I have one in a non-covet and do pretty much the same like you: running lots of VMs (but with VBox instead of VMWare).
What is a real improvement compared to my previous notebook (Core2Duo, 3GB RAM) are the 12GB RAM (ordered it with 4GB and added another 8GB) and the virtual 8 CPU-cores (you can attach all of them to all of your VMs because usually at this number no VM uses all at once and there is always one free for your Host).

Full ack with WUXGA WLED. I develop on this machine and run several test and server VMs. It is the best laptop screen I had so far - compared to Precision M60 and Inspiron 9400. A bit blueish but that could be adjusted with Windows 7 Color Management,
