There are new Control Point Security Manager /Fingerprint reader updates dated today on the Dell site. I have installed, looking for improvements.

Ok... being the impatient lad that I am, I installed the updates theZoid mentioned, and now I can use my fat finer to logon to W7 64bit. I did not try it before since I assumed it just would not work, now it works perfectly. :D

I am a little perplexed by Dell lately. I have the M6400 Covet loaded to the gills. I am looking to upgrade to the M6500 Covet but when i go to configure they do not list a 64Bit OS as an option. So i go to chat with an online rep and he was of little value. I asked if the system was mistaken to let you configure this system with 8-16GB of RAM and does not warn you that about a 64BIT option. The top of the line notebook aimed at high end graphics users do not allow for a 64BIT OS option? He said that I would have to move to the M6500 non-covet to get the 64BIT OS option.

Anyone who really knows why can chime in on this? This is not looking good for them.

Also I have read here and there that some of you don't like the Glossy Screen(E2E)? I have it and the Glossy part can drive me nuts with it being so reflective but the colors are so vivid. Will I lose that much going with an Anti-Glare. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten it. I am not worried about gamut since they are both the same. Forget the money factor of the upgrade - just I see more and more with the RGBLED AntiGlare than with.

I might not have a choice anyways if they do not allow for 64BIT OS on the Covet. I could always reinstall it but I do not want to go through that mess. I run the new Adobe CS5 Master Collection which requires 64BIT OS for Premier Pro and After Effects.

    Probably a mistake.
The covet can be ordered with Win7-64.
    Or I serioulsy missed something...

I found the Anti-Glare RGB LED very good.
Although white uniformity is less than ideal (will be the same with or without E2E).
    We've a 6400 covet with E2E here.
The E2E looks nice if you've proper lighting condition.
Some users said it makes the display "crisper".
But honestly, it does not seem to me it make any difference in term of image quality.

    Hope This Helps

brhume thank you for the response. It's not a mistake. They said it will not be offered with 64BIT at this time and cannot say when it will come back. I thought it was a database issue or a programming issue for the website. Nope it was confirmed no 64BIT OS as an option. I agree with you on the white uniformity and the colors are a little over saturated at times. I have set mine to gamma 1.8 and color calibrated and its pretty good on color now.Dell needs to work on corrected drivers when they first launched the M6400 Covet. I had just blown out saturation that it was embarrasing. Luckily Nvidia releases updates more often than DELL.

If the 64BIT OS is not an option then I can live with the Silver Casing. I have grown used to the Orange casing now. At first I was like hmm and it grew on me along the way.

I know we have a Dell resident poster here right?

Strange - just checked it on the german dell site. No problems to choose x64 with Covet. Must be a database error.

I just ordered my M6500 last Friday and it is scheduled to be delivered sometime around the 5th of July if all goes well.
I was on the fence between the EliteBook, HP Envy 17 and the M6500 but the Dell was a better deal after the warranty. Plus I had an HP laptop many years ago that bit the dust after 6 months....

However I must say that after reading this thread I would be lying if I did not say I'm a little worried.

It almost seems as if it's the luck of the draw on getting a “trouble free” 6500 vs one with problems that require on site support or a flat out replacement.

    Hi
I am looking to buy a Covet m6500, talked to the rep and asked if this model come with USB 3.0, she said they are not. Can anyone who had the Covet with USB 3.0 ordered, please give me your configuartion and where to find them on Dell website, so I can tell the rep that it can be done. Thanks

To those who have used both the AntiGlare or Glossy and those in the graphics industry or really pay attention to sharpness. Am I giving up a lot to move to Anti-Glare? The mirror effect bothers me often. Not inside my home and not in the dock :) but when I working just around town or stop in a starbucks or some place to do some work.

The reason I do not want to compare it to my 3008WFP's is that I do not think the Matt finish is the same as it would be on the Anti-Glare screen of the M6500 correct? When I have placed them next to the 3008WFP the Laptop seems much brighter and more vivid even after color calibration.

Just want some feedback before I place the order.
