To the very best of my knowledge, there is NO WAY for you to get the USB 3.0 motherboard unless you have the Covet model. The easy way for you to check whether you have the Covet model is to simply look at it -- the Covet is orange, and has USB 3.0. The standard is silver, and sports the standard USB 2.0

Please give me big loads of verbal abuse if I am mistaken, but this is what I found out both by talking to Dell, and by checking out the website.

You can also look at your order confirmation, it might say "silver 2.0 base" or something like it. Mine says:
    Precision M6500 : Silver Base, Arrandale, USB2

    Hope this helps you!

    Guys-

Thanks! Mine are definitely not blue like the picture...

I thought USB 3.0 was avail on the non-covet machines, just later in the production cycle...

You are indeed correct -- just checked for myself! You can get the Silver standard version with USB 3.0.

Hmmm... I wonder if the USB 3.0 ports are black now instead of blue?

    No.

If the ports on the left side of your M6500 are black, then you have the first-gen M6500.

I just got the Intel X25-M 160Gb: installed it as the boot os drive, and moved the existing drive into bay 2. Very fast and quiet. Highly recommended

Here is the spec sheet on that 64GB mini SSD card. If DELL isn't selling them individually I'd try contacting different people over at Samsung and see if they can suggest how to order one.

It would be pretty cool! From what I've been reading though as I google the part number, MMDPE64GEDXP MVB, no one has been able to get their hands on one yet as a seperate sale apart from ordering them with the m6500 system. I'd begin by going straight to the source though and contact Samsung and see where that takes me.

It may be that they just aren't available yet.

*edit: ahhhh, found one in China :) not sure about the accuracy of that translation though
