I wonder what Fn + Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start will do.

After dropping out of this thread a couple months ago, having ordered an HP EliteBook 8740w, I'm back. I never received the 8740w; HP canceled all orders with their DreamColor display. It's a long story.

So I picked up a M6500 on eBay. Now comes the fun of catching up with this thread. There goes this evening. Hopefully you all have found and solved all the problems by now. :)

    Hi people,

I am struggling to get a workstation for a decent price...silly... but I have been waiting for 3 whole months to decide... Wanted to get HP 8740w.HP Service in India is through third party companies which deal with business establishments. So, even if I do get it, availability of service is going to be delayed than usual[ The Rep took 3 weeks to get me a quote because I was not buying this behalf of some company]So dropped the idea.

    Now Dell M6500

    i7 920XM
    3800M
    160GB x2 HDD
    WUXGA Display
    4GB (4x1GB) RAM

rest else default and without USB3.

The price is 2,13,000 Indian Rupees. (~ 4500$)... I am not sure if I will get a discount on it.... that is what my rep tells me.

Do you think I should contact a different person or try something else?

I have waited too long and want to take the plunge...

    please give me any ideas...

Why without USB 3.0? I got a discount simply by grabbing a 2 days price grabber deal....you have to look long and hard for those....I'd tell my rep that I don't want to pay more than anyone else on this forum and to give you his best quote....I paid around 3900 U.S. (I think) for what's in my sig....you pretty much HAVE to get discount to make it realistic for that average person....let us know. I was desperate for a discount because for me there was no where else to go given that HP and Lenovo were out of the question (for me).

USB 3 not yet available in India. So I am a student... Moreover, if we say about this forum and tell them about the price issues, he tells me that the country is different. But will it be 700$ different?

I see that you have RGBLED as well,... I will talk to him again and inform you people about it...

    Sent you a PM.

My pricing was a little better, but we have a great relationship with our assigned rep, server rep, and regional rep. We almost exclusively buy all of our computers from Dell and to a much lessor extent Apple. Say whatever you want, but Dell takes care of their long term and stable customers.

Well, Dell have just been out to change my motherboard and graphics card today (they didn't know which which was faulty, so they just changed the lot ;D )
.. hoping my problems shall go away now. Laptop not even a month old, and already been torn apart ;D

I need to open it up later when I get the chance, since the Dell guy seems to have assembled it incorrectly - the left hand side is a little curved outwards (upwards toward the keyboard), which makes the screen not like up correctly when I close it, but likely just some little item that got placed incorrectly when he closed it. :)

Anyone else noticed a colour "grouping", where the gradients from one colour to another seem to go slightly more sharply at times? When viewing videos on my old M4400, the "defects" in the videos would not be so visible, since they are about the same colour as everything else, but on my new M6500, I have to view it at exactly the right angle to be able to see the "defects" -- even uncompressed HD video (where the change over from, for example, very light colour -> white is very rough and edgy, and not as smooth as on the M4400).
I have the 1920x1200 White LED LCD screen.

    [ E D I T ] Oh, and funny fact; the Dell repair bloke uses a Lenovo himself -- he doesn't use Dell! :p [ E D I T ]
