I posted pics early in the thread. Around Jan 15th I think. Typing on an iphone, so tougher to look that post up.

I have been lurking in this forum for months and learning. Thank you all.

I ordered my M6500 on April 30 with expected delivery date of June 3. Given the experiences of so many, I am ready for the delivery date to be rescheduled.

    Here are the major specs:

    Mobile Precision M6500, Carbide Silver
    i7-820QM
    8.0GB (1333 MHz), 2 DIMMs
    nVidia Quadro FX 2800M
17" UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED
    Integrated webcam with microphone
250GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive + 250GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive
    8X DVD+/-RW slot load
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    FIPS Certified Fingerprint Reader
    Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/g/n 3X3)
    Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth 2.1
Dell Wireless 420 UWB 1/2 Minicard
    DW5620 Multi-Mode Gobi MB Mini-Card
    9-Cell/85-WHr Battery
210W/240W switchable Slim 3-Pin, AC Adapter

The only compromise I had to make was accept Intel WiFi Link 5300 instead of 6300, since this special promotion wasn't available with 6300. I may have to replace 5300 by 6300 later if it becomes necessary.

I plan to replace the hard drives by a 256 GB SSD and a 500 GB HDD @ 7200 RPM immediately, and add 8 GB RAM later.

Not sure about what benefits I will have from UWB and Gobi, but they will be there if I need them.

The machine will be used at home as a DTR for programming to build applications, typesetting for papers and a book, and other miscellaneous domestic tasks.

Again, thanks to everyone for all the information.

P.S.: Can anyone tell me how I can change my username. Got this weird name when I created the account because I wasn't paying attention.

copied over from the M6400 thread...............

there is the possibility to manually control the fan and make the laptop way more silent during web surfing. for me it was a bit annoying while web browsing to have the fans spinning up and down constantly.

    "Hold Fn+Shift then type 1 5 3 2 4! Now you can enter a menu with Fn + R.
There you can see temperatures from cpu, gpu (skin) and system i think.

And for the ones how wanna set the fan to xxxx rpm they can do this there too. Even the throttling can be disbaled.

You just have to do this every time you start the laptop.
But only, when it was completly without power.
So when you just restart it or put in in "sleeping mode" the settings won't be gone. But thats not a big deal!
You can see if its still on by the blinking led next to the "caps lock" led."

Have a look above the thread posts. You should see a "User CP" link. If you can change your name you should find it there.
