    this statement is incorrect

    and for anyone who uses their computer for video encoding and the like i'd be interested to see what their power requirements are. probably more than 130W i would think

    Can one of the M6500 owners weigh their laptop and tell us the actual weight. It seems that the weight written on manufacturers site often is much lower than it actually is with all the hard drive(s) battery etc in there.

    if youre using 200W then at best you can only output 200W of heat, which in terms of an electrical system is 100% inefficient unless its a heating coil, in which case then its just a broken circuit. So in a 200W system that isn't perfect the heat loss is due to the resistive forces and the rest actually runs the system.

    Unless you mean a system that requires 200W to run and is only 70% efficient will actually need 200/0.7 W or 285 W but even then you're only losing 85W to heat. Its turned into mechanical energy to turn the platters, its turned into light energy to run the LEDs and its used as electrical energy to crunch the numbers in the CPU and GPU etc the rest of the energy is turned into heat as its lost because of the inherent inefficiencies (mainly resistance) in our systems.

    So long story short 200W of an electrical system isn't turned into 200W of heat.

    Using a kitchen scale, mine came out to about 8.6-8.7 pounds with battery and the two drives installed.

    The common misconception, I see. ;)
    What happens to the electric energy that was used to turn the platters after they are spinning? It turns into heat. What happens to the light energy after the light hits a surface?* It turns into heat. What happens to the energy that just crunched numbers? It turns into heat.

    Energy doesn't simply vanish. It only turns from one form to another. And the final result is always thermal energy aka heat.

    *) Since this surface usually is outside of the notebook (your face, a wall, etc.), this actually doesn't count as heat emitted by the system "notebook". But it's a very small portion of the whole output.

    I'm kind of sad you had to second this short-sighted view.

    Don't forget that the power pack is a little over 90% efficient (can't remember the exact amount) which means around 10% of the wattage is converted to heat by the power supply. Add 20 watts for power supply heat losses.

    im curious, does anyone have a picture of the power adapter that isn't the travel adapter? I can't imagine it could be much bigger than the travel adapter.

    Also in the bios it talks about the quick charge option...is there any reason not to choose this option to charge the battery?
