^ I second the heartfelt thanks to all that have helped in this purchase.... saved me a bundle, got a great deal on the specs from what I have read. I hear some pay full retail and don't ever save anything WOW. Seems it's like car sales, some get a great deal on the same car and others get screwed to the wall. Thanks again, if not for the ppl here I wouldn't even have purchased this over priced $5000+ laptop I just bought. Paid much much less or I would just wait or buy somethinge else in the outlet store. :D

DELL has officially seen enough and decided to end the $1,220 instant off discount sale

those who missed it shouldn't despair...

search pricegrabber.com regularly for "precision m6500" and sort by price in ascending order.

Thats a good config, you can easily disable the drive encryption. I have never used Dell's before but on most systems it is as easy as using the software tools for the drive and or the bios and disabling it.

I have the same system and went to the M6500 with i7920. (For other reasons) The processor benchmarks show huge improvements not so much because of the clock speed but the on board memory controller of the i7 and the new chipset help make large improvements, much like we saw from the core2 duo desktop processors to the i7s.

As mentioned earlier the Turbo boost does not boost all cores it will only boost one core to the max and others to different levels based on load.

I attached the breakdown of clocks speeds this helped me decide on what I needed when choosing an i7 mobile.

Quick question where did you get your memory, as I look around it seems to be very high for 4x4 = 12GB DDR3-1333MHZ DIMMS. Not willing to pay even $1000 that is crazy... it's technology, it's value drops in a few months. I can wait. Thanks

Thanks dezoris. I suppose it is a nice option to have, as long as it doesn't make full system backups too difficult.
