well, for me it was cheaper (much) going with the Covet...I personally like the way those glass screens look in use....just my opinion...

I will post when I find out what laser printer that is....

WOW! I guess it depends on what crew assembles the laptop! gradx, you should call Dell and insist they send the second HDD bracket, I would, and will if I don't get two HDD brackets! :D

this happened with the M6400 as well, some were getting one, some not, even though it says in the manual that it should come with the caddy!
I was was of the lucky ones i guess :)
p.s. check the second bay for a piece of foam,if you have that, turn it over, you will find the interposer inside the foam!

Put bluntly you can buy a car for less than a mid spec version of this laptop which is going to be a comparatively low volume product. There really is no reason to cheap out on this sort of stuff.

When I was putting my order in I specifically tried to get the 2nd caddy specified and even offered to pay extra but they couldn't do it on their system.

Does anyone know if the aerial for the 3g/hsdpa modem is also fitted as standard? They don't have it as a option in the uk yet and I would like to be able to upgrade without taking the screen apart.

I agree, but how do you explain a 500GB 7200 rpm HDD for >$510! A RETAIL Hitachi 2.5 HDD at Newegg costs $110 with free shipping, I can't even imagine how much Dell actually pays for them, an educated guess, <$90. The point I'm trying to make is Dell seems to be unaware of the whole supply and demand concept. I am always willing to pay whatever the cost is for what I want, but they really seem to be taking advantage of their customers.

Its pretty much a captive market, most home users will get an alienware or similar, most corp types wouldn't pay retail and the warranty is more important than the price.

The impression I get is big high end beasts like this exist more to satisfy corp account managers for the big multi-nationals who buy a lot of dell gear and have a small (but likely very important) users that need something more high end. Its more about stopping the it purchasing managers looking elsewhere than actually making a huge profit on the machine.

When the time comes for a big sale they can offer big discounts on these but retain margin of the "cheaper" laptops that they will be selling 1,000s of.

    Thank you!

I wanted to give a heartfelt thanks to gradx, ygohome, and others that have been so helpful in this thread. As a result of their advice and information, I ended up cancelling my initial order and reordering the system listed below. I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD and upgraded to the slim power supply, at a lower cost than my original purchase. As almost an "afterthought" the salesman mentioned that the GOBI card was included as a standard item in this system, so I ended up paying $125 for something I didn't necessarily need. Its there though if I should decide to use the capabilities in the future, and I won't have to worry about antennas, drivers, etc. It might also be fun to play with the GPS capabilities with mapping programs.

DW5600 Multi-Mode Gobi MB Mini-Card,supports Verizon Sprint, and ATandT Lat, M Precision $125.00

The one big question mark I have with respect to the new system is the "encrypted" SSD. I certainly would not have chosen this option if I had been configuring the system myself, and I'm not sure why the salesman specified "encrypted." At this point I'm not going to try to change it though, because I would probably have to cancel this order and reorder again and I don't want to jeopardize the great price I got for the system.

Can anyone provide any insight into issues I might run into with respect to an "encrypted" SSD? Will it make it more difficult to effectively "clone" or backup the drive?

Thanks again for all your help, and a special thanks to gradx and ygohome.

I do not know if I have to buy M6400 or M6500.
Most importantly for me CPU performance per one core.
The M6400 I ordered with T9900 ... i7920XM greater performance per one core?
