You can actually tweak those options under the Edit power options in the Control panel, under Advanced and Dell Enhanced settings.

I have the Samsung and am developing a new website and have worked on some magazine ads. My methods are as follows:
    1) Color managed apps I keep the screen calibrated and use as is.
    2) Non color managed applications, the web and srgb files I made a default vibrancy setting in the nvidia control panel for 40% vibrancy. I use this all the time. When I'm editing in Photoshop or Illustrator or a tagged file in Acrobat I'll open the NCP and move the vibrancy slider to 50% and cancel that when I'm done.

So basically I am running 40% vibrancy for average use / interface and srgb viewing. A quick switch to full vibrance in Lightroom, Illustrator, etc... In photoshop if one is working on srgb files they will look drab so I have to use proof/monitor and use my default 40% setting for vibrance. Or I simply edit and then do a final preview to verify.

I noted my Eizo 240W also exhibits the vibrancy change but since it's not as wide gamut it's slightly less in your face. In any regard the above workflow works well and output verified in print (Epson 3800 from Lightroom and out of house printing) and other screens. I can work confidently making the above adjustments to suit. As far as brightness, I never have a screen very bright but it's calibrated that way for accurate viewing. You do get used to a brightness level. If I moved mine above 60% I'de be thinking really bright. My point being it's not as relevent for editing but maybe more for average viewing where contrast and really bright in mixed light is more important.

From other posts and comparisons it seems the LG screen is less vivid.

Dloaded but haven't installed the SamsungRGB attached earlier in this thread to see if it can tame the superbright red that the samsung panel displays by default. We'll see tonight.

Question: Has anyone "lost" the on screen Fn adjustment displays? I had them after installing the control point modules that enabled them for a couple of days/reboots, but now they're gone, even though the checkboxes are enabled for them in the control point software. Not sure how I would've disabled them frankly... the service is definitely running, I've tried restarting it post boot, rebooting, etc. all to no avail. The function keys (display brightness, kb backlight, etc) and sound buttons all still work, but the lower left on screen display has compeltely disappeared.

    Ideas?

Yes....ever so slightly....Bokeh had his Samsung sitting right next to my LG with both machines on the same webpage...both looked good however, just a tad different as described.

looking to upgrade to more memory...

I'd want to buy official DELL modules and preferably purchase through DELL to avoid any potential warranty issues later down the road. I couldn't find it searching for the 1333 for either the m6500 nor the m6400.

I'm looking for 4gb modules in 1333. I found some for the ALienware 17x though...

DELL 4 GB Memory Module for Dell Alienware M17X Laptop : Parts & Upgrades | Dell

is that it? No word yet on 4GB 1600 modules.

    Thanks,

    Ben

The only warranty concern buying modules outside of Dell would be that the modules themselves aren't warrantied. Easy enough to substantiate that with a phone call, but I've never had issues using Business Care/Complete Care over the many Dell's I've owned.

As for that particular module...
My 2x4GB kits were less than $400 apiece. Which, reiterating the above, if you're concerned about the warranty implications a phone call is in your best interest.

No 4GB 1600Mhz modules yet unfortunately.

Hey Ben, the Magnuson-Moss Act (in the States) prevents DELL from invalidating a warranty when using appropriate 3rd party parts: (Wikipedia)

Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty.[2] This is commonly referred to as the "tie-in sales" provisions[3], and is frequently mentioned in the context of third-party computer parts, such as memory and hard drives

I was very familiar with this being a long time BMW M/C Touring Rider...lots of replacement parts on m/c's...:)

well that is good to hear. As long as the quality of the memory is high and that it meets the correct specs, latency and all that jazz.

I found a kit of 1333MHz 8GB (2X4GB) at Crucials website for $499. Is there another quality brand that someone could suggest?

    Thanks
