I've been hesitant to install drivers from the support page since my reinstall of Win7 for some of these reasons.... letting MS drivers apply when possible. I'm personally still using the audio driver that Win7 Ult applied (set up and recognized as some sort of "HD Audio Device"). As far as the popping sounds that have been reported here, I haven't had an issue with it at all. Thanks for validating my cautious approach, I suppose.

I have looked all over the BIOS and consulted the manuals and found no menu item to enable USB 3.0 - can you enlighten me?

I know not everyone uses the M6500 for sound design, but for god sakes how can you advertise an ISV certification on a workstation with botched audio drivers?

Having to use the OS generic driver just to get around audio distortion is absurd. And when we get a new driver it has bugs right out of the box.
I PM'd Havoctex to pass this all along but, there is no excuse not to have a professional level low latency driver for this machine given what it is designed for and who it is sold to.

I am definitely patient to working out bugs but something as simple as this has not been fixed properly after 3 months really gets to me.

If you are going to market a device like this they way they do they need to have the core functions work. They are not marketing this to Joe Blow who thinks 128Kbs and Itunes music is high end audio.

They are marketing to people who are designing and creating the music.

    Update to A02 bios.

    Go to System Configuration Tab
And then go to Misc devices and enable it.

    I'm at BIOS A03 - doesn't show under Misc. devices - maybe this is a sign that I don't have a USB3 device installed.

Do you have the Blue USB3 ports on the side? If so I wonder if the controller card is bad, I see no other reason for it not showing up in the bios.

Has anyone had any probems with the speakers and the headphone socket ?

After unplugging my headphones (after use) I was not able to get any sound out of the onboard speakers.

I tried reinstalling drivers and even tried the new ones that were recently posted on the Dell website -but to no avail!

I suggest you to verify that the default sound device is set correctly

    1. Click Start, type Sound in the Start Search box.
    2. Click Sound in the search results at the top of the Start menu.
    3. Click the Playback tab. Notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is Speakers.

Make sure that your audio settings are configured as expected. Follow these steps:

    1. On the Playback tab, select the playback device, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and make sure that the Default Format is set to the value that you expect.
When you finish, close this window to return to the previous window.
    2. On the Playback tab, select the playback device, click Configure, and then make sure the configurations are set correctly.
    3. If the sound settings are set correctly, you are using speakers as the sound device, and your speakers are already set as the default device, go to method 5 now.
    4. Select the sound device that you want as the default sound device, and then click Set Default.
    5. Click OK to save your settings and to close the Sound dialog box.
Determine whether you can now hear sound. If you can hear sound, the issue is resolved. If you cannot hear sound, try method 5.

    I hope this helps,

Thanks Manny. I'm not having any issues to speak of though. Was trying to illustrate the point that the Win7 drivers seem to be fully functional for my needs, though I'm in not using any kind of sound/mixing applications that would need anything beyond that.

Hey guys, just got my M6500 and want to do a clean Win7 reinstall.

Is there a summary or guide anywhere of how to best do an install and what drivers to install, etc.? (I've scanned this thread but don't see anything clear).

    A few things I've gathered :
    switch BIOS to AHCI
    enable USB3 in BIOS
don't download drivers from Dell page unless absolutely necessary
