Does anyone have more specific information on how to verify if USB 3.0 is on my Covet?

I put off ordering my Covet for almost two months waiting for USB 3.0 to be part of the basic config for the Covet. I was assured that all orders after early March were shipped with USB 3.0. If there is USB 3.0 on my system, I certainly can't find it.

Only the generic USB hub shows in the device manager (even after installing the NEC chip set support from the Dell web site) and I have no "blue ports" - I am begining to think that what I was sold is not what I received. Very disappointing if true. Any guidance?

Read a few posts up....I posted a screenie of what device manager should look like with USB 3.0 working. Do NOT install that NEC driver from the DELL Website....uninstall and nuke the driver, reboot and go into BIOS and enable USB 3.0 if you haven't. When you reboot into Windows 7 (I assume) Win 7 will install the USB 3.0 driver from it's own repository then check Device Manager...it should look like the screenshot I posted....it's that simple. Post back what you have and haven't done.

    @c2c2c2:
USB ports up to 2.0 have 4 contacts. You can easily see them if you have a look into the connector.
USB 3.0 has 5 additional smaller bent contacts behind those 4 contacts. You might need a flashlight or some other lamp to see them. If these are there, you definitely have USB 3.0 ports. If they are not there, you have no USB 3.0 ports.
These additional contacts are also the reason why you'll nee new cables to use USB 3.0.

Of course having USB 3.0 ports doesn't necessarily mean to have USB 3.0 support. You also need the matching controller. But if I understand the design of the M6500 correctly the controller should be on the same daughter board like the right USB ports. Therefore USB 3.0 support should be given if your right USB ports are USB 3.0.

Maybe I missed it but looks like they pulled A03 bios.

Secondly, CS5 Premiere is complaining about GPU acceleration problems with the Dell Nvidia drivers on start up not supporting certain features.

Kind of interesting.... I know I enabled the USB3 ports in the BIOS before I installed Win7 Ultimate, and through several updates/reboots, it was never detected until I installed the drivers from Dell's site. Don't have any USB3 devices to test at the moment, but I've plugged USB2 devices into it and they just work, and those ports are recognized in the Device Manager list.

Are you implying that perhaps a Microsoft driver is found post install and removal of the Dell NEC driver?

You know, after 3 months now of having this machine out you think we would have an audio driver worthy to use on a workstation.

I installed this piece of crap on Win64 bit.
By default the driver enables the stupid SRS which distorts the sound so badly sounds like you are playing sound out of a your phones speaker.

I am sure there is some other crap enabled too. Not a huge deal if I could disable it.

That is the best part, you cannot get into the advanced settings. They don't open when you click the button so there is now way to to turn off this garbage.

Dell seriously, do you test your drivers before you release them or do you let your customers do the work for you.

On a home or general consumer laptop I expect this and work around.

But on a machine that has ISV certifications from companies like digidesign for professional audio editing its pathetic to have a sound driver that right out of the box has even basic functions that don't work.

Here is the fix for the new Audio Driver:

    By Default this driver enables:

    Bass Boost
    Virtual Surround
    Room Correction
    Loudness Equalization

    To Disable All of this:

    1. Control Panel
    2. Sound
    3. Playback Tab
    4. Right Click your sound output (Speakers or Headphones)
    5. Select Properties
    6. Go to Enhancement Tab
    7. Toggle Disable ALL Enhancements
    8. Apply and restart your Audio program or reboot.

You need to disable the enhancements for all outputs to get normal sound.
    This is totally unacceptable.
