the price of the Blu upgrade ($500) make me think it is a writable drive. But I didn't want to make an assumption. Anyone know for sure? Thanks again.

Thats cool. Sager also makes a laptop with the i7-975 processor. Its pretty sweet but for my money I'd rather have Dell. I wonder what battery life is like and how long those 975 machines last with all the power consumption and heat. They'd make a neat alternative though.

im guessing that they would last at least 2hrs, with that 12 cell battery, but it does weight alot compared to the dell. I would say they wouldn't have the same support as dell does but then again this is a small company compared to dell in making mobile workstations, but even then they are very reputable i would say.

and they cost alot compared to dell, their quotes are around $5000

Not true. The Sager NP9280 which probably is the same model that you are looking at (Clevo D900F chassis) is cheaper than the precision m6500. XoticPC.com has them starting at $2189 USD, which is far cheaper than the starting price of an m6500. $3800 gets you the Core i7-975 3.3ghz with 500GB 7200rpm, GTX 280M (standard), and 12GB of memory. Drop it down to the 2.66 which is still faster than the fastest m6500 cpu and it is only $3k.

I researched all the options for notebooks but the m6500 won me over because of the warranty, RGBLED, and it's lighter than the clevo.

Sure, but i don't know of how much help they will be. The only camera I have is the 3MP on an iPhone 3GS. Like reported here earlier, it is identical or nearly identical to the M6400 chassis. Let me know what you would like pictures of and I'll snap them.

speaking of the RGBLED... I'm trying to understand the difference between the RGBLED EDGE to EDGE backlighting (covet) and the RGBLED backlighting (non covet). It seems that is the only real difference between the covet and the non-covet m6500.

The only information I could find in google about LED edge backlighting was in Wikipedia where it describes Samsung's "edge" backlighting. But I wasn't sure if that was the same thing that Dell is calling its edge-to-edge.

    Thanks,

    ben

Covets are just a specific setup with a special colorized chassis. The only real option exclusive to the covet is the color of the chassis. The 3800M, RGBLED edge-to-edge, etc can be an add-on for normal m6500.

If I remember right, the Edge to Edge is the same as on the M17x; It's a glass screen over the actual screen that completely covers it and the bezel for a smooth surface. It has nothing to do with the backlighting.

    Pimp my laptop !
The difference between the RGB LED E2E and the RGB LED is just an expensive piece of glass above the same mate screen and a pretty orange color chassis to catch geek eyes (You should read the M6400 topic, there is a lot about it).
