The physical layout is little changed from the previous versions and I have a dim recollection of it not being possible to use both the M.2 2280 and 2.5" drives together. Hence the work-around tried by a few people of putting an M.2 2242 SSD into the WWAN slot (I recall this worked for some people but not everybody) but we don't know yet how these new notebooks will handle that storage option.

The changes in the update are quite small and I agree that, unless someone needs one of the new features, picking up the 5x70 at a good price (sensibly from Dell Outlet) will provide much better value for money.

Thanks, the WWAN slot is only half length though and not officially designed to house storage media.

Do all the regular 5470 SKUs sporting the 1080p non-touch screen have IPS panels or are there some 1080p TN panels being used as well?

The specs for the E5470 say "FHD WVA" where WVA means Wide Viewing Angles. The technology used to provide wide viewing angles may not be IPS (which is an LG Philips technology) but whatever the other display manufacturers have developed as their equivalents. AUO (one of the suppliers used by Dell), for example, has AHVA.

It appears from some other users that this laptop will take 32GB(2x16GB) of RAM. My question is, will there be any issues with purchasing only one 16GB stick with the intent to upgrade to 32GB at a later date. This would be my ideal situation as cost is a factor for me right now. If not, would anyone recommend just grabbing another cheap 8GB stick of the currently installed Hynix brand?

    Hello paperwastage,

I am trying to get my E5570 working with a WWAN drive. I asked John Ratsey on the forum, since he previously had an E5570 and got it working with a drive in the WWAN port. However, he referred to you as the expert on this topic. I have followed your instructions in your post referenced above: I have set the BIOS to use AHCI, I have SATA 0/1/2/m.2 pcie all enabled (there is only SATA 0/1/2 on my E5570 no 3), I have set the WWAN slot enabled (I have also set the wireless key/button to not being able to control the WWAN).

I cannot see the BIOS identifying the drive (Transcend SATA III M.2 SSD MTS400 32GB).
When using an Ubuntu 16.04.1 usb stick and using the "Disks" program, it does not see the 22x42 drive, but it sees the main SSD that is stuck into the ordinary M.2 22x80 port, the usb from which I booted and the loop device Ubuntu is using as a stand-in drive when booting from usb.

I have also actually stuck the transcend 22x42 drive into the ordinary 22x80 port and fixed it there, started the computer and formatted the drive, put it back into the 22x42 slot, and it is still not working. Not recognised in BIOS and cannot be seen by the ubuntu linux Disks utility. I am using BIOS 1.11.4

Do you have any suggestions on how to get the drive working? (I am not using Windows if I do not have to.)

    Thanks!

Well, if you read a few threads back, some e5470/e5570 owners have issues with m.2 wwan, some don't

Not sure what other bios/uefi settings is needed... I can do a screenshot of all my bios/uefi settings

Maybe downgrade to the bios version that I have?

There are at least 3 motherboard versions for e5470, maybe this feature is disabled on some versions

Yes, please do a screenshot of the bios/uefi settings, that would be helpful. I am using legacy mode, could that be the culprit?

I will try a downgrade of the BIOS, which version are you using?

Where can I find the version of the MOBO?

I previously checked with Dell technical support, but the only information they had was that a disk in the WWAN should not work according to their Reference Manual. However, they were interested in knowing if I found out a solution...

    Thank you for the help!

    I think 1.4.7 A07

Might not have time until thursday... I posted a YouTube video of my laptop booting from m.2 2242 wwan, might find some useful info there

(Some users were having trouble booting from wwan. some users, you included, are having trouble using wwan as sata slot)

Has anyone had DPC latency issues with their E5470 and an SSD?
