    It's a smart card+NFC reader

NFC is somewhere on the right of touchpad with an icon

The physical card reader is a slot on the left side of the machine, just below the vents

Hi folks, I picked up a Latitude 5470 below from the Dell Outlet for £576 using the Black Friday 15% off code, which I think (hope...) was a good deal. It should be with me next week. I have a 1TB 2.5" sata drive in my current laptop which I would like to put straight in to the 5470 as a secondary drive... is that going to be possible? Is there room / required connections??

    Latitude E5470
    Intel® Core™ i5-6440HQ Processor (Quad Core, 2.6 GHz, 6MB Cache, 35W)
256GB M.2 SATA Solid State Drive
    Windows 10 Pro (64bit)
    AMD Radeon R7 M360 2GB
    8 GB (1x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Memory Non ECC
    14.0 inch FHD (1920x1080) Anti-Glare LCD
    90W 3-Pin AC Adapter
    Primary 4-cell 62W/HR Battery
    No Optical Device
    Internal Qwerty Backlit Keyboard
    Bracket
    No WWAN Card Included
    Intel 8260 Dual band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.1

    No

There's only room for two drives
Primary slot: 2.5" OR m.2 2280 sata/pcie, both connectors are present but share the same physical space
Secondary slot on wwan: m.2 2240 sata only

Most likely the included drive is a m.2 2280, won't fit in secondary slot. It won't include the 2.5" cable either

Also, some people find out that they don't have a 2.5" port for some reason. Very weird/uncommon

It's probably best to save up your pennies towards a higher capacity M.2 2280 SSD as the 2240 SSDs seem to carry a price premium. Probably the cheapest suitable 1TB SSD is currently the Crucial MX300 but that's still £20 more than I paid for the Sandisk X400 over 6 months ago. Brexit vote and the drop in the £ have caused some prices to move in the wrong direction.

Thinking of getting one of these myself. Have any of you experienced any coil whine with the E5470?

I could also get a E7470 instead for about €150 more, is it worth considering the same specs except for the slightly smaller battery on the E7470?

The E7470 is a thinner notebook which is restricted to ULV CPUs and has a relatively small fan which can whine under moderate to high CPU load.

The E5470 is thicker and slightly heavier but available with quad core CPUs and a (relatively weak) GPU and this means that the cooling system is much more robust and less noisy - a potential consideration if you are working in quiet environments. You can get further insight into the difference in my E7450 review (which has a similar cooling system to the E5470).

I snagged a 750GB Crucial MX300 SSD for £104 in the Amazon Black Friday sale, which I'll use intead of the 256GB M.2 2280 (assuming it fits of course, and I'm not one of the unlucky ones...). I take it the fresh Windows 10 installation should be pretty straight on the new drive? Anything I should be aware of, or any suggestions for best method?

Unless you happen to be unlucky and got the same Mobo as this person (no sata header)

You'll need to find/buy a sata cable as well. Search this thread for tips on how to get one, and search my previous posts about my clean w10 installation/necessary Ethernet/... drivers

Any idea if all E5470's have the same cooling system, even the ones with ULV CPUs? I'm a bit worried about battery life with the "full fat" quad core CPU.
