That's what I was wondering. Maybe the boot performance on the WWAN is slower compared to the 2.5" slot due to some initial steps.

Anyway, I didn't follow this issue too closely, just noticed HDD in the config and was wondering if that is the culprit.

Was going to suggest that, but there could also be the chance that WWAN slot is given a lower / delayed priority during boot or something.

HDD is slow only in reading/writing data due to spinning circular disks. Bios talks to electronics as far as I know.
Anyway, it's good idea to check:
I disabled all the drives except wwan - no luck
I removed the HDD from the case - no luck again :(

I don't want to waste your time guys. Thanks for the all suggestions. I can live with 30sec boot. It's still better than it was a few years ago, before ssd era.
If I find the problem, I'll post here.

    +1

Either that or try to test booting from an SSD in the 2.5" slot.

There was no drive installed in the main 2.5" bay when I tried booting from the WWAN slot -- it was physically removed. I installed via USB, set up grub as normal, and the BIOS simply did not see the drive as bootable.

Not sure if this is a BIOS version difference or a UEFI vs. legacy difference.

That's essentially what I've got now; I've got the EFI all on the 2.5" with gummiboot to select between Windows and Gentoo, and then the Gentroo install is on the WWAN drive and Windows has the entire M.2 drive except for a few 10s of MB on the EFI partition.

Hi John, can the 54 whr battey from the e7450 bit into the e7440?

If so, will the e7440 then have close to the battery life of the e7450?

    thanks for any information here.
