Does anyone happen to have the model with mfr. number "5470-2048" (6440HQ, HD530, 8GB, 500GB, FHD non-touch)?

If so, does it have a dual-pointing keyboard (with trackpoint nub)?

I see this model available for sale in several places online, but I'm unable to find any information on this point whatsoever, and when they have pictures they all take care to mention that they are not necessarily of the actual product.

I believe that it costs extra for that keyboard when you order from Dell.

You can order it from ebay and replace it easily by following https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/latitude-e5470-laptop_Owner's Manual_en-us.pdf

I suppose that's a reasonable backup plan, thanks.

(It's not even the trackpoint I care about - but the physical middle mouse button...)

    Hi all,

First post here. Wondering whether to get the E5470 (6820HQ) with a big discount or the t460p (6440HQ) with less discount.

My main concern is heat. Has anyone considered or used something like the Opolar LC05 Cooler? Would this allow it to not go down to 35 Watts for the 6820HQ or is that configuration fixed?

Wondering also if for just normal internet browsing/YouTube streaming would the heat of the laptop be too much to be on the lap. I would be using it on my desk for heavy use but also on the lap for browsing/streaming.

Any info would be much appreciated.

    1. The cooling system of the E5470 is designed for the heat of the CPU + optional dGPU.

    2. The 6440HQ (4 cores but no hyperthreading) in my E5570 draws less than 35W without any obvious performance penalty. However, the 6820HQ with the hyperthreading may need more power under full load.

The computer can get warm on the bottom under light usage because the CPU temperature may not get high enough to get the fan to start. I have used by E5570 on lap in short trousers and noticed that the hottest part (noticeably warm but not hot) was the fan area which rested on my left thigh.

Have you checked Dell Outlet stock? Saving 40% to 50% off normal prices while still getting the same warranty is attractive.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the info. Yeah such a heavy discount is what made my decision so difficult, I was just about to buy the T460p when I received the offer email from Dell.

I don't have an interest in a dGPU at the moment. Software I require mainly uses one thread only although with virtualization sometimes required I am on three threads under load in some few scenarios. It would be great to hear how the 6820HQ runs heat-wise while watching YouTube HD/4K and browsing as this is one of my main concerns, the heat whilst streaming when on my lap and also the heat whilst under load on the desk forcing the CPU to lower performance. I saw a video of a guy showing how he changed the thermal paste on the E5470 and got much better temps. I wonder how accurate that would was. Would be great to hear any experiences with that.

Also wondering if the CPU only drops to 35w from 45w after a certain temperature. And if so, if I manage to get the laptop to optimal temps I would have a decent running CPU.
