    Definitely socketed.

The mainboard on mine died not long after I got it. Service man came out and replaced the board, used the same CPU. Standard style laptop socket CPU.

Awesome to know. Did it look like it was hard to get to and replace if one chose to?

Call and complain about the hinge and the dent and screen. The will send someone to your home and swap it all out for a new one. I do know that when ur on battery and if you have the dell intelligent power saving turned on it will change the screen contrast according dynamically to save battery.

    Hi.
Can any of you guys comment on the V131 ability to cool itself while placed on a soft surface? As I read V131 has hyperbaric cooling and sucks air from below. I know that laptops are usually meant to be kept on a hard surface but I have kept my Dell Latitude on my sofa for years (while not on my lap) and nothing bad has happened to it so far as it was able to cool itself while running idle. I am not so sure about the V131, someone on the web said it will suffocate when placed on a sofa. Can anyone comment on this?

i dont get what's so special about hyperbaric cooling.....because it seems it sucks air from the bottom, then blows it out through the side vents.

isn't that the same way as most laptops?

TO MAITMK, yea common sense, do not block air ways. when ilding i dont think any thing is running, so naturally it cools itself.

first time charging the battery from almost completely depleted state.

took 2 hours 15 mins to get to 70% (laptop isnt being used, just straight up charging)....this is kinda slow no?

this is on a 90W brick. yea i think its hella slow

Common sense or not, but depending on the laptop design it might not be that important/or might be even more important than you think.
For example - my Latitude can take air IN through the keyboard also, so it will not get too much overheated even when placed on the sofa (unless under heavy load). The fan that is BLOWING OUT is placed near the left side so it really does not care where the air comes from.

In case of the Vostro V131 the hyperbaric cooling means that the fans SUCKS air (and dust) IN from BELOW, so blocking those air inputs might have dramatically different effect than it has on my trusty old Latitude.

The nice thing about the v131 is that it has two sets of fan. Only one will power up when needed and two when really needed. I think the isobaric chamber does well is, it channels heat even with no fan, through pressure difference. When there is no fan running, I can still feel a very mild draft coming out of the vents. They can call it what they want, but I'll call it a dual fan cooling system :D
