My Ubuntu V131 (purchased from a retail store in Thailand) has a backlit KB and finger print reader.

Dell didn't include any CD with windows drivers so you will need to download all the drivers from the dell site. I've installed the driver for the fingerprint reader, but have never used it.

    About touchpad settings.
Looks great, but how do you deal with no DragLock?

I find it being on is pretty annoying. It sometimes accidentally moves files or picks up things and moves it around. I just double tap and hold while moving the item. once I let go, it drops it. The touchpad has edgescroll during drag. so if you hit the corner of your touchpad while dragging, it continues to move in that direction until you get there.

i found a sim slot behind my v131's battery.. but my v131 was purchased without 3g... is there really a sim slot even for models without 3g..?
i was hoping they left 3g even on none 3g models.. hehe

on other dell notebooks, there is usuallu a dock above the desktop.. i notice the V131 does not have one.. where can i get one?

    thanks

can anyone please write a few words about noise levels and heat?
specially if you're using a SSD version. but also if you're not :)

regarding my noise concerns - most of the time i'm in a completely silent enviroment, and fan noise can drive me crazy (and also the whirring of the HDD, so that's why i'm gonna get a SSD version). Im currently using a vostro 1220 machine (pretty old... 2.5 years), and the fan just constantly goes up and down, even when no programs run in background (expt OS ofcourse..) and I fell like going crazy.
so in idle mode - surfing web, documents, nothing to heavy that works in the backround - can u hear the fan? is it constently audible?? (as written in notebookcheck's review Review Dell Vostro V131 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews)

    many thanks.

I have one with an I3 and a regular 7200 rpm hd and the cpu is silent but the hd has a little whirl to it. I only hear it in the library, but in class... no noise. I am going to assume that on power saver mode and an SSD it will be as quiet as can be.

The left side hinge has started to make clicking noises on mine, when I move the screen. :(

Call DELL!!! You have a 1 year next business day warranty which covers accidentals too. They will overnight the parts to the a local dell technician, then the tech will call you for an appointment the next business day to swing by to put in the new part(s).

On one of my laptop, I received an LG screen (very nice) even though the purchase spec said AUO. On my other one, it came with the AUO which isn't as good but still usable. i called dell to complain that the screen looks washed out. They're overnighting a new screen and motherboard to a local tech. The guy should be calling me sometime today to make an appointment.

    Keep us posted :)

I had no problem getting the drive installed. No flex that I can detect.
