Hm... this laptop looks really promising.

1.8kg with 65whr battery, dedicated row of pg up, pg down keys as usual, and with same cooling system as v130 (which I heard was excellent).

I will probably wait 1 or 2 weeks to see more reviews about this laptop before I place the order.

It should come with a 4-cell battery because the info page does say that the 6-cell is optional. The promo shots also show the V131 with a flush battery, presumably a 4-cell. It's probably that the laptop has just been released and they've got a shortage of parts which, in this case, are the 4-cell batteries. Hopefully it'll pop up on the config page soon.

Interesting but I want an i5 at least...and that puts it to 799 and you can get an x220 with IPS for that much...though it won't have USB 3 but the x220 kills the V131 for battery.

And weight probably. 4lbs is a bit too much for something truly ultraportable.

I don't see how much better the #4#0 i5's is to the i3 though. Its missing features compared to the normal #5#0 i5's such as VT-d or AES-NI I believe.

btw, V131 is cheap and thin. Is this our first ultrabook a bit ahead of schedule? It's a very interesting laptop either way, though I personally agree with Tsunade and think that just paying a bit more for an X220 is probably the better choice if thinness isn't as much of a concern as weight or battery life.

I really wish that the 'ultrabook' would go away as we've had ultra books for years... (In a way)

P.s. ultrabook = Super thin light laptop.

I just wanted to make a quick post and make a quick review of my V131 that just came today. I ordered the "ships fast" model because my main laptop died and I needed a new one for some business trips coming up.

So first and foremost...Dell did a great job on this refresh. This might be might favorite Dell yet. Great design, great form, thin, light and good build quality (and I am anal about build, for a Dell this is awesome). I got the i3 processor as I wasn't really concerned about the i5 features (AES-d and VT-d, even though I do run VM's, VT-d isnt that big of a deal to me, as long as it has VT-x)

Pros: Great build all metal design, feels great in hand. Battery life so far has been amazing, USB3 ports work very well, keyboard has been great, no issues here, screen is good, not great or amazing, just good, and fine enough for me. Excellent track pad too.

Cons: Screen could be a step up in brightness, but its not a big deal for me, its bright enough and works fine. Build quality of plastic bezel around screen could be a step better but expected for a $700.00 laptop. So far thats it, only had for 4 hours!

Overall: Dropping a Crucial SSD in it on the weekend to run some tests, default 7200RPM stock drive is actually pretty fast, but no SSD. Fan doesnt run constantly and performance has been steller for a machine in this price range.

My opinion, this machine could be a MBA competitor for the people that dont want to pay big $$$$. Does it have the screen or extreme build quality of a MBA, no, is it close? I think so.

If anyone has any questions let me know! I can post pics if anyone wants to see anything.

P.s.- the hard drive and memory on the ships fast unit are simple to change, ships with a single 4GB stick. Easy to add another and hard drive removes in 5 minutes via under body panel.

I am really looking forward to this laptop :D

s1xth, can you tell me if this model uses 7mm or 9mm hard drive?

Also, how is the heat and noise?
