Is there any way to configure a build with no HDD? I, too, would prefer to add an after market M.2 950 Pro, but I can't have the 84 Wh battery with the lowest price spinning HDD? Any suggestions there?

YOU can't because the 84Wh battery takes up the length of the laptop, whereas a HDD or mSATA SDD would require a 56Wh battery which is shorter.

Got my 5510 yesterday and this is my first impressions for far:

    + Really fast
+ Feels solid overall. (except keyboard!)
+ Great DPC latency figures despite all devices on. (win 7 pro x64)
+ Runs pretty quiet in normal use

+ & - Touch pad is quite good, though the clicks are a touch too loud for my taste, not a bog deal. Also two finger scroll is so so in some circumstances, does work that well with windows expl.for example. I have to click somewhere to get it to recognise that this is where I want to scroll.

    - The keyboard! I dont like the feel, the "low frequency type" sound it makes. But worse still is the flex, its a lot of my 5510, especially on the left side. Like if I snap the Q key semi hard I can feel clear vibrations in my right have resting below the right side of the keyboard. Not ok for a machine with this price tag. In comparison my GFs MBP keyboard feels like a rock!

Also, a sour taste in my mouth is the fact that I ordered an extra power adapter (i hate carrying these around) from the 5510 configurator, and it turns out that its not the right adaper for the 5510 (which I saw now when I clicked on the info for that option). But Dell, why the heck do you sell an power adaptor in the 5510 config page, that doesnt fit the 5510?? (this is from dell sweden)

I opened it up and I cant really see what the 8GB ram stick that I have in it is. Isnt it best to get the same manufacturers ram? Im gonna buy another 8GB stick to get 16GB total.

Finally I ordered without any SATA drive because I wanna pick my own without the Dell overhead prices. The physical slot is there, but no interposer (?) to connect it to the mobo. Can I buy this from Dell? Was it stupid to not get with the cheapest 5400rpm HDD for this reason only?

    /m

Try hwinfo to find out more about your ram.

The interposer should only be needed to fit a smaller (than 2.5") drive - is the SATA cable there?

    Ok cool Ill check that.

Also, I thought the interposer was the actual cable...and no, I didnt get any sata cable with the computer, I was supposed to get that right?

It has been known for a while that the XPS 15 doesn't come with the necessary hardware to connect a SATA drive unless you buy it with one already included. It hadn't been confirmed for the Precision model, but I guess now it has been. People have been trying to buy the spare part from dell but so far no one has been able to.

I should say that some of them were actually able to put an order for the connector after fighting with support for a long time, but they all keep receiving claims that it isn't in stock and/or having the delivery date delayed further and further into the future.

Yea I read that now in different forums. This and that moronic thing that you can order a power adaptor that doesnt fit the 5510 makes me very keen in ditching dell and returning the machine.

I also did some testing of the PM951 today (mine is the 250GB version) and I can confirm that stuff I have been reading about the XPS 15 threads. The read speeds of the m.2 PM951 goes down drastically after the computer has been sleeping. This has got to be a bug in the firmware or bios I assume and hope.

Also, does anyone know if there is a utility avalable for these drives? Like Samsung Magician where you can do performance optimization, which I do from time to time on my other Samsung 840 drives.
