I think I remember reading that Geforce GTX Pascal cards were too big for 7710.

    Hands on Dell Precision 7710

But the Pascal Quadro cards are maybe sized differently than the Geforce cards considering that a P5000 is in the new 7720. Would be very interesting to find out

*edit: I clicked on your links above and I see you've done a lot of research on this subject. After viewing the photos in your links that some GTX Pascal cards were strange sizes (clevo) while the P3000-P5000 look to be same dimensions of the M5000M. P5000 should fit in a 7710 just as it does in 7720, correct? Very nice research you have done. Thank you.

Indeed, the Pascal Quadro cards are the "regular" MXM size. There is a good chance that they would work in the 7710. No way to be sure, until someone actually tries it.

Even if the card dimensions are the same, there is the possibility that different component layouts on the card could make it not fit well with the heatsink in the 7710. Then, there is always the possibility that something in the BIOS will keep the new card from running... (As with the M6600 and any Kepler- or Maxwell-based NVIDIA card.)

Unless there is something special about the 7710, upgrading from MXM Maxwell to Pascal is not possible because of something like the power requirements or a physical limitation. I forgot the exact reason, I will have to look for that post again.

Unless (again haha) something new came up, this limitation applies to all Maxwell generation MXM machines.

There was even a thread here to appeal to manufacturers to do something about it:

As said already in the thread, you can find a Pascal card with an MXM 3.0b format (e.g. the new P-series Quadro cards have exactly the same VRM design as 980M and the P5000 is downclocked to fit the 100W TDP).

So, as this removes any physical or power problems, the only requirement is the eDP display connection (rather than LVDS which is usually used with hybrid graphics IIRC).

To the OP, does it have to be a Quadro card?

I would be interested in upgrading my 7710 from a M4000M to a Pascal 1070 or the P4000P. If you find out any more information, please post it. I just need it to be cost effective (under $1000 - and I'd prefer 500-800 USD).
