right but will both of those work with the 7710 without custom drivers / firmware, etc? I haven't read good things about the gecube cards.

I am looking for something that is basically drop-in compatible with minimal modification. I also want it from a US based reseller.

yes, i would like a p3000 or a p4000 for a clevo. i'm searching those cards and for this reason I created this thread but i found only fujitsu cards. they are really expensive 1250 euros (m3000m was 850 euros) for a p3000 or 2100 for a p4000 :( so now i'm searching them made by dell or hp

I am not sure the Dell 7710 upgrade works for the Clevo, unless you are positive it works. The Clevo MXM 3.0 cards I have seen on eBay have all been a different format.

They won't work without modded drivers inf file as only Quadro cards are whitelisted by Nvidia for Dell Precision laptops. It's not a big deal as the mod is quite easy or you can download the modded inf file.

Firmware wise it depends, but Dell will offer the new P-series Quadros for M7720 so obtaining a compatible card (or firmware to flash other brand Quadros if needed) won't be a problem.

As ijozic mentioned, it is unlikely that any card that is not a Quadro will work without modified drivers. You will need to modify the drivers to use a GeForce card. The procedure is not difficult and well documented online.

That card in particular is larger than a standard MXM card... You'll have to check and make sure that there is clearance around the MXM slot in the notebook for the bits that stick out.

There have been no reports of a successful (or unsuccessful) Pascal upgrade of any sort for the 7710, as far as I know... No one knows for sure if it will work, until someone actually tries it. :)

Have you tried contacting Dell's spare parts department... I think its a long shot but its worth a try.
