    Hi Alex,

as a starter: I am OK with the current runtime. Running 3 to 5 VMs in parallel takes some RAM, CPU and storage and will consume more power than web browsing - but still less than 5 real test computers. Just a human wish (so not always logical ;-) ) for a follow up system to get even more speed and space and never the less longer battery runtime ;-)

    To answer your question: it is an m6800, i7 4800mq, AMD FirePro m6100, FullHD, 24GB RAM, WLAN 1550 and quite some storage: 2x 840 EVO 1TB in RAID-0, 1x m4 256GB mSata and 1x m4 512GB instead of optical.

It is from December 2013, first battery which is still close to the initial state. A little below 4 hours battery time - could have been a little above 4 hours when brand new. That is with balanced power plan. When I use high perf mode it is about 2h - CPU does hardly throttle then.

Not sure how much OS and driver versions might influence the battery runtime: Started with Windows 7 x64 back in 2013 and upgraded to Win 8.1 and currently Win 10.

You're not going to likely see great gains in battery life from one generation to the next (6800->6900). If you have an occasional need for more run time, I would just suggest an additional battery.

Think so too. And no, battery time is not such a big need.

Neither CPU nor battery seem to get a really noticable upgrade.

m.2 PCIe looks promising but seems to be currently limited to 512gb per module with ~doubled pricing.

A real replacement reason for me would be 16:10 - just in case I forgot to mention that in earlier posts and just in case some Dell stuff reads along ;-)

Well, yes: If they offered a 16:10, I'd order the thing immediately.

If you haven't seen the retro Thinkpad polls, it's pretty revealing: people really want 16:10 on that one, too.

Really hope the next gen machines get announced soon; getting pretty fed up with the weak GPU in my M3800.

I thought the retro thinkpad is pretty much gone/dead

Chinese reseller have some leaks on new model 5510- thin and light workstation, something like a w540s?

    14" chassis, 15"screen
    i5 i7 e3 option
    k2200m
    usb3.1c TB
    yadayda

Maybe we should get a title change to next gen precision w.e~
the behemoth models should have model no. 7510 and 7710

Media! Media! Media! That's what's moving all these handheld devices forward. Including laptops. The aspect ratio wars have been fought and won. Your 16:10 is now gone the way of the Dodo.

Well, I kind of got your message the first time around... ;)

Anyway, I thought Apple was the big dog as far as the computing platform for media creation is concerned, and for some reason Apple is getting it: Their laptops are all 16:10. Why is that, I wonder?

No matter, with the kind of crap that Microsoft is now trying to foist on the public as an operating system, I may be switching to Apple hardware at some point anyway. And I never thought I would say this, ever...
2020 is still quite a ways out, however, so I'll wait and see, and stick with Windows 7 in the meantime.

An yet you still hold on to wishes and dreams? I suppose anything's possible.
Apple has always gone its own way, you know that. Not necessarily because its better (although that's what they would have you believe), rather, because its different.
Is there anything specific you don't like? Its more intrusive. Then again, its also more intuitive. My biggest dissatisfaction so far is its non adaptability with my version of Avid MC 8 -- a pretty big deal. Other than that, I haven't noticed much of a difference.
I really hope you're just being dramatic? A move like that would be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
