    Hy,

I started a discussion solely about Video Card upgrade on Dell Precision M6800 (Mine is FirePro M6100 and I want to move to GTX 980M or similar).
The thought was to keep the talk around this subject only, so if anyone in the future will need such info, to find it all in one place.

It would be extremely useful and appreciated if anyone can give me some advice regarding this matter, problems that I should avoid, or just share your experience if you did such upgrade.

Thread can be found here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/graphics-card-upgrade-for-m6800.806352/

    Thank you guys!

[IMG] What is the spare black antenna cable for?

It looks as if there are 2 for the WLAN and 2 ready for a WWAN card but there is another black one.

I don't think its for a WiGiG card as I've seen elswhere in the forum that the WiGiG antenna is blue.

    Any ideas please?

For WiFi card. Some use 3 antennas, example Intel WiFi Link 5300.

I am looking for this modules to fit in my M6800.
    HYPERX HX316LS9IBK2/16
Also is it possible to use as well HyperX DDR4 modules?

No DDR4 in the M6800. I don't see why CL9 modules would not work, though.

Anyone encountered problem where CPU limits its long Turbo Boost to 37W TDP?

    I've got i7 4710MQ - which was a happy camper until recently.
Short Turbo boost was over 50W TDP for 28 seconds, then it would settle down at 47W TDP, which is long boost TDP.
Now I've got 43ishW short turbo boost TDP for 28 seconds and then it drops to 37W TDP, which is new long turbo boost TDP for some unknown reason.

Throttlestop repords PL 1 current throttle, XTU reporst Power Limit throttle.

When I open Throttle stop TPL, all TDP wallues are shown correctly, TDP at 47W, Power Short at 58W, duration 28 seconds.

Due to unrelated issue I have MBO replacement on the way, but if this is some EC or BIOS glitch issue. I'd like to get to know so in the future I'd get around it.

I've seen some BIOS unlocking tutorrial somwhere in the tread and will try that out on the day my new MBO gets here.

EDIT: tems are fine from what I can see, under 80 for CPU, Under 70 for GPU, new thermal pads on CPU VRMs, new paste on CPU. Only thing coming to mind is PCH, but its also under 70C (62-68) most of the time.

Need High-End Replacement for Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (w/bluetooth) Half Mini-Card for M6800... Suggestions? Dell is clueless.

Heading says it all. Sick & tired of having to disable and re-enable the 7260 wireless/bluetooth card every time the M6800 goes to sleep (when I close the lid, etc.) Checked all the power options already, (no "power down card to save power" boxes are checked), downloaded new drivers (I've tried both Dell's outdated drivers & Intel's most recent ones), called & spent most of the day with Clueless Dell (who told me that the only two cards that would work in the M6800 are: (1) Intel AC-7260 & (2) Dell's limp 1550. That can't be the case, right?) Also, Dell said the "half mini-card" (or HMC) is NOT a PCI-e type form factor... is this true? I can't seem to find an Intel AC-7260 half mini-card that doesn't also have "PCI-e" in description, as I was beginning to think that simply getting the same crappy card again might be my only option, even though it's status is "end of life" on Intel's page: https://ark.intel.com/products/75439 Things used to be so easy in the 1990's....
I'm running Win 8.1 Pro (because this M6800 refused to install Windows 10 about the time it stopped being "free;"), through a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 router, and spend 90% of my work time online, so would not mind spending the bucks to get a really efficient card. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Half-mini card is PCIe. Get a Broadcom BCM4352 based card. They are cheap and easy to find on eBay. However, make sure that you do not install drivers newer than 2013 (Windows should have an appropriate 2013-era one in-box). Newer ones BSOD on me and a few other users have complained about that too.

    Hi All.
I was able to buy a M6800 2nd hand for a nice price. It's a nice machine but 1 thing that is bothering me is the LCD display. In reviews i read the LCD panel is an IPS one but i don't believe this. My config has a FHD matte non touch display. I'm wondering if the panel can be replaced with an IPS panel which is not build for this notebook.
I know the connection to the panel is EDP (displayport), but what for example the mounting holes?
Are LCD panels easy exchangable these days even when they are not build for a specific notebook type?

There was an LGP IPS offered at the beginning IIRC, but it was dropped due to too many QC issues (unless I'm mistaking it for M6700 and due to the issues they dropped them from the M6800 altogether).
