There was an IPS panel available for the M6700 that used eDP and people really liked it. The M4700 was the one with quality issues that had the IPS display option dropped, it seems like no one could make a good 15" panel at that time. I don't remember an IPS panel ever being available for the M6800 (but I could be wrong). Pretty sure early M6800s use LVDS and later ones use eDP so you will want to be really sure which your system has before attempting an upgrade.

There are some things to worry about when choosing a replacement LCD panel. Your replacement must have the same output type (example EDP), cable location, and mounting holes in order to work. They did change the mount used at some point, it is different between the M6700 and 7710 for sure (not sure about M6800, I've never swapped the display in one of those).

You're absolutely right on the M6800 never having the IPS screen, I just wrongly presumed that was the reason the early boards had both LVDS and eDP.

But, why would they drop the IPS screen option from the M6800 altogether if there were no problems with the 17" screen as well? They were obviously not near the M4700 levels, but I remember complaints on some corner tint issues. I don't really notice those (although I do have a few dead pixels in one group), but for professionals working with color sensitive applications, these were probably significant enough to warrant returns and given the poor QC control of these screens, Dell probably decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Can someone point me to the link please? I've searched all 90 odd pages of the thread and can't find it!
    Many thanks

Does precision laptop ever support Bios Recovery feature? I wish to try downgrade bios to A09 but the lowest allowed so far is A11. Lower than A11 will be blocked for downgrade due to "unsupported downgrade".

Bios Recovery mode is the only possible way to downgrade below A09. However this feature seems to be only available to newer model laptop...

Not entirely true actually. Right before the M6800 was phased out, they did in fact start shipping them with an IPS display as the 1080p option. You can find the motherboards and screens for this if you go to parts-people.com or similar sites. Just an interesting fact I learned.

Do you have a P/N for that? As far as I know all of the later eDP panels used in the M6800 are TN.

Anybody still keep the copy of A10 bios? it is not available at Dell website, I need to try bios A09 but blocked due to unsupported downgrade. Lowest can go so far is A11. I want to try if downgrade to A10 first then A09 and see will it accept.

Nevermind, it seems like my M6800 is newer revision which is not compatible with older revision bios. The road is blocked :(
