Looking at current K5000M prices on eBay, anywhere from $300-$450, if I sold my card after a 1060 upgrade it wouldn't be very bad. Question is, if it will even work. Let me know if you hear anything.

If I haven't heard a definitive "no" I will try it myself around March/April. (Too much on my plate to bother with it right now.)

I've seen a report of a (sort of?) successful 1070 upgrade in an older Alienware system... http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-1070-in-alienware-17-r1-ranger-success.797893/
Still, the system has eDP. I haven't found any details about an Optimus configuration, but NVIDIA does say that Optimus is supported on the GeForce 10 series.

Now to see if the bigger card will fit the M6800. Perhaps we can get the guy to do a scan of the cut out he made and we can then check the clearances in the M6800 and M6700?

In the M6700, the GPU is at the very top edge of the system and there is very little clearance. On the opposite side, there is also little wiggle room between the GPU and the RAM slot and CPU heatsink. I don't think a larger GPU is fitting in there. Just as well, I'm not that ambitious (with potential chassis modifications), 1060 is it for me both in terms of effort and budget.

On the other hand, the M6800 seems to have some room on both sides of the GPU, it might just work.

Looks like the M6800 might have better luck but at the end of the day if we can get the cut out template to have a look it will show us what work is involved.

I'll go ask the author of the mod.

Do you guys know if the m2000m supports lvds or not? I'd be interested in eventually sourcing one if I can at least confirm that much

They are still a bit pricey I believe but I still got time before I attempt such a mod...last I saw it was about 400 bucks on ebay?

    Thanks in advance guys

Yes, the Quadro M series does support LVDS. We have seen Quadro M2000M working in the Precision M4700 and M4800, as well as Quadro M5000M working in the Precision M6700.

The upcoming Quadro P series will not support LVDS.

    Hey thanks!

I'm running an m4600 so I wanted to make sure I could at least check that much before giving it a try in a couple months. I got to finish up more of my degree before I can justify the purchase.

There is one person claiming it doesn't work on a Korean guide due to "screen jam" but I can't find a source for that or any other attempts for the m4600 so just wanted to make sure lvds support was present before waiting time on it lol

    Thanks again!

No problems with A18 on my side. Installed 6 days ago.

m4/6x00 BIOSes seem more mature than the 7xxx ones ;-)

    A18 BIOS? It's still A16 on Dell's website.

    Am I missing something here?

Removed? Strange, but you are right, just A16 available currently.
