I'm considering getting this workstation but have 2 question:
    1. Is it possible to swap out the Firepro M6100 for a gaming card? If so which ones / instructions?
    2. How are temps on the CPU / GPU? I want this laptop to last 4+ years and not burn out.

More questions (I know, I'm sorry):
-Does Enduro work properly on Windows 8 / 8.1 with the FirePro M6100?
-If I swap out the M6100 for a Quadro / GeForce GPU will Optimus work?
-Is there only 1 motherboard for the workstation, not different ones depending on nvidia / amd GPU?

    Thanks in advance

Optimus only works on quadro. On gtx 780m it is working but it will not switch for nvidia gpu during gaming. Mainboard is the same. Heat sink is different for ati/nv

Dell's USA configuration page for the m6800 has strange pricing for the CPU.

    m6800 processor selection.png

the following choices say they add $448
    i7-4900mq
    i7-4910mq
    i7-4940mx

    but the i7-4930mx adds $875

I don't understand why the 4940mx is priced the same as the 4900mq and 4910mq, while the 4930mx adds $875.

Is this a mistake on Dell's end or is this promotional pricing?

I own a M6700 and have had a few problems with it so Dell upgraded me to an M6800. Problem is that my M6700 had an IPS screen and this feature is no longer available with the M6800 so I reluctantly opted for the matt 1920x1080. I currently have both machines while I transfer data etc so I did some comparison photos comparing the screen quality.

M6800 on the LEFT (matte standard) and the M6700 on the RIGHT (IPS)

I am really disappointed with the quality of the M6800 screen (matte 1920 x 1080). I can't believe this standard is acceptable. I mean this is a high spec laptop and Dell offer a screen this bad? The viewing angle is almost unusable. Left to right angle - not so bad, but up and down is so bad that I have to constantly move my head up and down to get an understanding of the colours on my screen. Everything thing is washed out and lacks vibrancy with a blue tinge through it.

Does anyone else have this problem? I mean, I understand that it wont be as good as the IPS, but this screen doesn't even come close to other laptops in the $1500 - $2000 range (Sony, Samsung etc..) and Dell quoted my M6800 over 4 X that price!

Is this normal or do I have a dud? Is this a known characteristic of the LG, AUO or Chi Mei etc.. screens? _MG_7564.jpg _MG_7570.JPG _MG_7536.JPG _MG_7545.jpg _MG_7556.JPG _MG_7562.jpg

I had the same problem with two M6800s I ordered. Both had an LG matt FHD screen, and with both the vertical viewing angle was terrible.

I believe the Chi Mei screens are even worse.

I have returned both M6800s and seriously hope Dell brings back the RGB IPS screen (or other high gamut screen) in the M6900...

Vertical viewing angle? Sad truth is they are all bad, more so when you have a IPS next to it~
