they do get into serious trouble though, if you rate them 6 or lower in the customer survey they send you after a service. dell calls them up to get an explanation of what happens and then calls up the customer and generally dell sides with the customer and gives the technician a grilling

The 250 and 320 GB Scorpio Blacks (at least the older ones) do click. I know this cause I have one of the older 250 GB Scorpio Blacks in my dad's HP and it clicks and beeps like a madman (but I know it is not dying at all). Just an overly paranoid gyro-sensor.

Hmm, strange i own 2 Scorpio Black 320Gb (bought in 2009 if i recall correctly) and they don't "click", they're pretty silent.
Some time ago i owned a Seagate Momentus 7200 that "clicked" alot and was then replaced in warranty. The replacement did not "click".

Maybe some disks are noisy and other ones are not, but i suggest to run Speedfan every now and then and check HD status: "clicky" sound may be a hint someting is wrong.
This little piece of software already saved my twice from a HD fail. It gives some really reliable hints.

2009 is about when I bought mine. It clicks a lot though. There does sound like an additional clicking sound coming from the left corner.

I can hear it over my 2 workstations running. Very curious. I need to check more. I will take out the 320 Scorpio and listen more.

I did turn on the Energy Saving in the BIOS. Though it didn't do anything. Strangely enough my Cinebench score was considerably higher.

Try this, it's a matter of 5 minutes: download Speedfan 4.44, install, run it.
Go to "S.M.A.R.T" tab, select your HD, run the "Perform an in-depth online analysys... " button. It just uploads your S.M.A.R.T data to server and check it against a statistical collection of data.

In the report, take a look to "Spin Retry Count", "Start/Stop Count" and eventually "Spin Up Time". Are these parameters fine?
If these and other params are in/over average then your HD is healthy and you shouldn't be concerned about the clicky sound.

Can you see if the TDP and TRL is adjustable with Throttle Stop 3.1?
If it can be adjusted means we can overclock these 2920xm equipped M6600.

Video of how to check the TDP and TRL below. I just want to know if can be adjusted or is it locked with throttle stop. Each model is different. In the newer ones they might have locked the bios or not.

Here is the video of how to do it.

BTW: how much you pay for the system? With the 2920xm?

    thanks!

Sorry to bring this up again guys, but I think fabrizio's original post kinda got lost in all of the benchmarking talk...

Those of you that are having problems with Optimus: what BIOS version are you running?

Since the 4000m overclocks well enough to be faster than the m8900, I might as well go that route as long as I can get Optimus functional.

On topic: bios a03, quadro 4000m, nvidia verde 275.32. I have no problems with optimus.
Please people post your driver and card too.

Btw: i avoided to install most dell software (including video drivers), since it's buggy and unreliable in my experience. I don't know whether this fact has any impact on optimus behaviour.

Around $3200 before tax. I have the 1600x900 screen with the Quardo 4000M

Not sure about the TDP and TRL. I think that is locked. I will check when I get a chance.
