Hey Thor, since rx 580 only supports eDP, is it possible for M6600 to compute through rx580 and output through the integrated GPU? There comes some cheap rx 580 which were used for mining

    Hello guys/fellow M6600 users.

I received my M6600 yesterday, i got it for a great price! the specs are in my signature.
The screen is incredible! i have no idea wich one it is, it's 1080p glossy. The colors pop, and the blacks are deep.

It has 4x4GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM, but it seems to be running at 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz.
But this won't affect gaming performance right?
According to some posts this CPU and chipset should be able to run this config at 1600mhz.
CPU-Z is showing 655.1mhz wich is 1333mhz right?

This would work with the M6800, but M6600 can only do graphics switching with NVIDIA cards.

Hi, i'm new here and read some threads about M6600 and gpu upgrade.

I have a M6600 since july 2012 with IPS RGB panel, i7-2960XM, 32GB of ram and so on. Stock was a Nvidia Quadro 3000M inside. After this gpu died, i have installed a K3000M.

But now i want more and bought a M5000M... But it doenst work... The intel AMT error is fixed (disabeld) but windows or linux doesn't boot. I can also dont flash a different vbios, because no os works...

Any idea or should i sell the M6600 and bought M6700/M6800?

I like this notebook very well and it runs over 8 hours every day since 2012.

    Chris

There are known issues with NVIDIA GPU upgrades with the M6600. You're lucky the Kepler Quadro card is working, actually, some users have been unable to get those to work. I have not heard any stories from someone who got a Maxwell card to work. Both M6700 and M6800 can take Maxwell cards with no issues (and even a few Pascal cards, with some work) so you could look into getting one of those used. You don't even need a whole system as you could transfer over many pieces from your M6600 (GPU, drives, battery, Wi-Fi card, display, even memory probably...). Note that some M6800 systems only have an LVDS display port on the motherboard and some only have eDP; M6700 systems all have both ports.

The other alternative would be to look into upgrade options for AMD GPU cards. I think that just about all of them work with the M6600, at least until you get to the new ones which do not support LVDS, but there are issues with some of them not causing the fans to spin up so you would also need to look into a manual fan control solution.

Thank you for the fast answer. So should be the M6700 the best solution for me, to install the the M6600 IPS RGB display on the M6700? And i can use the M5000M...

If you have the IPS RGP display and intend to keep using it, then you will need a M6700. (Also you will have to continue using an NVIDIA GPU.) They took away this option from the M6800 and I don't know if there is any way to get it to work. You might also need the appropriate display assembly for the M6700 since most of those systems come with the regular TN WLED panel which isn't as thick. It is possible that your entire display assembly from the M6600 will just fit on the M6700; I am not sure if all of the screw holes are in the same place, maybe check the service manuals of the two systems carefully for that.

I can confirm that M5000M works fine in the M6700, I am using it myself daily (but I do not have the IPS display).

Honestly I would remove the thermalpad strips that were meant for Fermi card and stack as needed for the vrms on the firepro. This card does alright with most coolers so long the core makes good contact.

If anyone out there has the idea of trying the FirePro S7100X with this machine don't bother as I tried and it didn't work, conclusion is that this card is the last variant of the R9 M390x and the Firepro w7170m with possibly the lvds and edp functionality disabled. The same card doesn't boot resulting in a dreaded beep code in the M18x R2.
